Samsung Electronics posted a record 89.5 trillion won ($61.9 billion) in operating profit for the second quarter, as the AI-driven memory boom lifted both profit and revenue to all-time highs.

The company said Thursday that revenue for the April-June period reached 171.5 trillion won, up 28 percent from the previous quarter, while operating profit rose 56 percent.

Samsung’s Device Solutions division, which oversees the semiconductor business, extended its record-breaking run from the first quarter as strong demand pushed DRAM and NAND sales to fresh highs. The result underscores how heavily the company’s earnings are currently tied to chip demand, especially as AI-related purchases continue to support memory markets.

The Device eXperience division, which includes smartphones, TVs and home appliances, posted higher revenue than a year earlier on stronger premium and AI product sales, although operating profit fell because of higher component costs. That mix shows the company’s consumer electronics business remains important for revenue scale even when margins are pressured.

Samsung said a stronger dollar added about 3.1 trillion won to quarterly operating profit, with the effect mainly benefiting the component business.

The company also said it spent a record 16 trillion won on research and development during the quarter, a sign that it is continuing to invest heavily across semiconductors and devices while the AI hardware cycle remains a key focus for the wider electronics industry.
