Sam Altan’s World Launches World ID Suite for Banks to Combat AI Bots and Deepfakes
Key Takeaways
- •World, the identity project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Altman, launched its first industry-specific World ID suite for banks and financial institutions, announced by co-founder Alex Blania at Money20/20.
- •The suite bundles three cryptographic-proof tools—Proof of Human, Proof of Presence, and Proof of Attributes—with Bain Capital, OpenExchange, Outtake, Pantera Capital, and VanEck Funds as its first design partners.
- •The World ID app functions as an identity wallet enabling banks to confirm clients are real people without collecting documents or storing personal data, while World ID for Zoom verifies video call participants through a one-time Orb verification that grants a Human Badge.
- •World ID for Agents, offered through AgentKit, allows a verified person to pass proofs to an AI agent that can cryptographically demonstrate it is acting on a real human's behalf.
- •Worldcoin rose more than 1% to $0.49 after the announcement, and total futures open interest increased almost 1% in 24 hours, climbing about 2% on Binance, 5% on OKX, and 3% on Hyperliquid.

World, the identity project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has launched its first industry-specific World ID suite for banks and other financial institutions. The tools are designed to help firms verify people, protect against bots and fraud, and identify deepfakes.
World co-founder Alex Blania announced the suite at Money20/20, a major conference for the payments and financial services industry. The launch marks the first World ID suite designed for a specific industry.
The announcement comes as AI-generated impersonation becomes increasingly convincing. In 2024, an employee at engineering firm Arup transferred $25.6 million after joining a video call in which every other participant was a deepfake. World cited the incident as an example of the challenges facing financial institutions.

What the World ID suite includes
The suite combines three tools backed by cryptographic proofs: Proof of Human, Proof of Presence, and Proof of Attributes. Its first design partners are Bain Capital, OpenExchange, Outtake, Pantera Capital, and VanEck Funds.
The World ID app functions as an identity wallet. Users can store and share privacy-preserving proofs without disclosing personal data. Banks and other institutions can use those proofs to confirm that a client or business partner is a real person without collecting documents or storing other personal details — a contrast with the document-based checks that have long anchored identity verification in banking.
The second tool, World ID for Zoom, is intended to verify that participants in video calls are real, unique humans rather than deepfakes. Participants complete a one-time World ID verification at an Orb device, World’s in-person verification hardware, and then connect the World ID app to their Zoom account to receive a Human Badge.
The third tool, World ID for Agents, is offered through AgentKit. It allows a verified person to pass proofs to an AI agent. The agent can then use cryptography to demonstrate that it is acting on behalf of a real human when interacting with platforms or institutions. How the first design partners put the tools to work will provide an early indication of the suite’s uptake in banking.
AI fraud concerns and Worldcoin trading data
The launch follows growing concerns about fraud enabled by artificial intelligence. Deloitte has projected that AI-enabled fraud losses in the United States could reach $40 billion by 2027 — more than triple an estimated $12.3 billion in 2023.
Worldcoin, the project’s token, rose more than 1% over the previous 24 hours and was trading at $0.49 at the time of writing. Its 24-hour low was $0.459, while its high was $0.510. Trading volume also increased slightly during the period.
Data from CoinGlass showed buying activity in the derivatives market over the previous several hours. Total Worldcoin futures open interest increased by almost 1% in 24 hours, with open interest rising on several exchanges. It climbed by almost 2% on Binance, 5% on OKX, and 3% on Hyperliquid.
