Robinhood’s crypto trading volume increased 61% month over month to $17.5 billion in August, but remained 38% below the level recorded a year earlier.
The online brokerage reported the figures in its August 2026 monthly operating report, published Thursday. Bitstamp contributed $10.1 billion of the total, while trading volume on the Robinhood app reached $7.4 billion.
Bitstamp’s August volume rose 53% from July but declined 30% year over year. Robinhood app volume increased 72% month over month but fell 46% compared with August 2025. The separate results show that both businesses contributed to the monthly increase, while each remained below its year-earlier level.
Robinhood acquired the crypto exchange Bitstamp in June 2025. Bitstamp was also the larger contributor to Robinhood’s crypto volume in the second quarter, accounting for $22 billion of the company’s $40 billion total. The Robinhood app contributed the remaining $18 billion.
Robinhood’s crypto transaction revenue declined 38% year over year to $100 million in the second quarter, compared with approximately $160 million a year earlier. Growth in event contracts, options and equities more than offset the crypto-related decline, enabling the brokerage to report record quarterly revenue and earnings. The volume and revenue figures therefore provide different measures of crypto activity: higher trading volume in August did not change the second-quarter year-over-year decline in crypto transaction revenue.
The August operating report noted that crypto volume from Robinhood Chain was not included in the reported figures, leaving that activity outside the monthly total.
