Robinhood Expands Crypto Strategy With $25 Million Bitcoin Treasury Purchase

Robinhood has added approximately $25 million worth of Bitcoin to its corporate balance sheet, placing the financial services company among publicly listed firms that hold Bitcoin directly as a corporate treasury asset The purchase marks the latest step in Robinhood's steadily expanding crypto business.

Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood's senior vice president and general manager of crypto and international, disclosed the purchase during an interview at the Digital Asset Summit Asia, a digital asset industry conference, on Wednesday. According to Kerbrat, the move aligns the company more closely with Bitcoin and the wider crypto ecosystem. The company did not publicly state exactly when the purchase was completed, and Kerbrat announced no further asset purchases during the interview.

Robinhood Builds Direct Bitcoin Exposure

Kerbrat acknowledged that the Bitcoin position remains small compared with Robinhood's overall size. The company carries a market value near $100 billion, and its shares closed Tuesday at $112 after falling 1.85% during the session. Unlike customer crypto held in trading accounts, the purchased Bitcoin belongs to Robinhood itself, so its value moves with Bitcoin's market price.

The purchase follows Robinhood's recent expansion into crypto perpetual futures for U.S. users, a product line covering assets such as Bitcoin and Ether. The company has not disclosed whether it plans to buy additional Bitcoin or add other tokens to its treasury.

Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, remains the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin and reported another purchase this week, lifting its total position to 848,000 BTC.

Crypto Products Expand Across the Platform

Beyond direct trading, Robinhood has increased its focus on blockchain products. In July, the company launched Robinhood Chain using Arbitrum technology, an Ethereum layer-2 framework. The network supports tokenized stocks, blockchain-based representations of traditional shares, and other digital assets, while the Robinhood wallet gives users access across more than 120 countries.

The company counts 28 million funded accounts, including roughly 27 million in the United States. Its crypto lineup now spans spot trading, crypto derivatives and tokenized stocks, giving the brokerage multiple avenues into digital assets. The broader push comes as investors track crypto-linked public companies for exposure to the sector. Robinhood's network reached about $1.05 billion in total value locked as of Tuesday, according to data from The Block, a measure of assets deposited on the network and a widely used gauge of blockchain activity.

Corporate Bitcoin Holdings Keep Growing

Robinhood's entry into the corporate Bitcoin market comes as several public companies continue adding BTC to their treasuries. Strategy bought another 334 BTC for about $28.7 million between Oct. 1 and Oct. 4, raising its total holdings to 848,000 BTC, part of a treasury program the company began in 2020.

Other public companies holding Bitcoin include Tesla, Block, MARA Holdings, CleanSpark and Riot Platforms. Robinhood's $25 million position remains modest beside those larger corporate treasuries. Even so, the purchase places Bitcoin directly on the company's balance sheet while Robinhood continues building crypto trading, tokenization and blockchain services for its global customer base.
