The XRP Ledger has undergone a significant upgrade with the release of version 3.3.0, which introduces six new amendments for voting: Confidential Transfer, Batch, Sponsor, Permission Delegation, Dynamic MPT, and fixCleanup, the latter encompassing a bundle of fixes. On the XRPL, amendments are protocol-level changes that must achieve an 80% affirmative vote from trusted validators over a two-week period before they are activated, giving the validator network a governance gate on new functionality.
The proposed amendments target several areas relevant to XRPL's institutional roadmap. Confidential Transfer would enable privacy-preserving transactions, Batch would allow multiple operations to be grouped atomically, Permission Delegation relates to access control delegation, and Dynamic MPT introduces multi-purpose token enhancements.
RippleX software engineer Mayukha Vadari detailed the non-feature-amendment changes in the release. Key improvements include a memory usage reduction of over 15%, enhanced online_delete performance, and approximately 60 bug fixes identified through an AI red team effort.
Additional changes within the fixCleanup3_3_0 amendment include the deletion of expired credentials in Permissioned DEX trades, improved invariants to ensure expected XRPL behavior, and an upgrade from C++20 to C++23. Several legacy amendments that had been activated for over two years—such as Clawback—were retired to simplify the codebase. Test coverage across the repository also increased from 82% to 82.9%.
Vadari noted that numerous minor fixes, refactors, and improvements across the codebase and build system were included in the upgrade. While these changes may be largely invisible to end users and operators, they contribute to making xrpld incrementally better and easier to maintain.
