PLACE Closes Acquisition of AI-Powered Mortgage Fintech Maxwell, Bolstering Its Platform for Lenders and Institutional Partners

PLACE, a real estate and financial services technology unicorn, has announced that it has officially closed its acquisition of Maxwell, a leading provider of AI-powered mortgage technology and services. Maxwell serves more than 400 financial institutions and facilitates more than $130 billion in annual transactions. According to the company, the addition of Maxwell will accelerate the rapid growth of the PLACE ecosystem deeper into the mortgage and institutional side of real estate.

"Maxwell is fundamentally aligned with the PLACE vision of a simpler, more connected real estate transaction," said Ben Kinney, PLACE CEO and Co-Founder. "The mortgage experience is a critical point to build trust with consumers. We're thrilled to bring Maxwell's best-in-class solutions into the PLACE ecosystem and power the hundreds of institutions that make homeownership possible."

The PLACE homeownership platform currently powers hundreds of thousands of real estate professionals through two distinct pillars: à la carte technology services, and the PLACE operational and growth engine for real estate teams. An estimated 20% of U.S. homeowners are already part of the PLACE ecosystem through the company's proprietary technology and services ecosystem, and the company touched more than 100,000 real estate transactions in 2025.

Maxwell offers a point-of-sale solution, business intelligence, fulfillment, diligence, and private label origination services, which allow institutions to offer mortgages under their own brand. These offerings will complement PLACE's existing solutions for consumers, real estate professionals, and institutions. With Maxwell positioned as a critical centerpiece, PLACE will scale its financial services business, bringing the same growth engine to the lenders and institutions that power the homeownership journey.

The deal follows a period of growth for Maxwell. In 2025, the company touched nearly 10% of mortgage origination transactions and reported 20% five-year compound annual growth, achieved during a historically low-volume housing market.

Earlier this year, PLACE acquired the Real Estate Services business of Radian Group, a move the company describes as an unofficial milestone into institutional real estate, adding due diligence, REO (real estate owned) asset management, and valuation services, among other solutions. Combined with Maxwell's origination, fulfillment, and diligence capabilities, the two deals give PLACE financial services offerings that span both the agent-facing and institutional sides of the home transaction.

As the mortgage industry faces increasing pressure to deliver a faster, more connected consumer experience, lenders of all sizes need technology that works across the entire real estate lifecycle. The acquisition positions Maxwell and PLACE to meet that need together, creating a more seamless platform for lenders, agents, and homeowners at every stage of the journey. It also gives Maxwell the resources and reach to accelerate its product roadmap while tapping into PLACE's expansive real estate ecosystem. According to the companies, the combination positions them to deliver a truly integrated homeownership experience, from search to close.

"The real estate market has dramatically evolved over the last 10 years since we launched Maxwell," said John Paasonen, CEO and Co-Founder of Maxwell. "By doubling down on deeper connectivity between the real estate transaction and the mortgage transaction, under one platform, PLACE and Maxwell will enable lenders of all sizes to unlock a powerful synergy that makes consumers the center of the homeownership journey, no matter what brokerage or lender they choose."

Maxwell customers will continue to receive the same trusted platform, dedicated support, and product innovation they rely on today, now backed by the additional reach, resources, and ecosystem of PLACE. There will be no disruption to existing contracts, services, or relationships. How quickly that search-to-close integration takes shape, and how Maxwell's product roadmap advances under PLACE's ownership, are the details to watch next.
