Palantir Shares Rise 3% as William Blair Highlights Maven Smart System Growth

Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR) shares rose 3.17% to $183.12 on Wednesday as investors continued to focus on expanding government contract momentum tied to the company’s Pentagon initiatives.

William Blair analyst Louie DiPalma maintained his Outperform rating on Palantir, saying the Maven Smart System (MSS) is moving quickly toward a $1 billion annual revenue run-rate when multiple contract vehicles are combined. The firm said MSS is Palantir’s most significant contract vehicle overall and described the Pentagon’s commitment to the platform as broad-based and accelerating.

“Every indicator suggests robust expansion will persist throughout the coming nine months,” DiPalma stated, adding that he expects MSS to achieve program-of-record status before the end of September. Such a designation would further embed the platform within Pentagon acquisition frameworks.

A directive dated August 4 from Deputy Secretary of War Steve Feinberg, titled “Funding Palantir,” called for a $244 million increase in Pentagon appropriations for Palantir through March 2027. Earlier, on March 9, Feinberg issued a directive requiring MSS to transition to official program-of-record status by the end of September.

The fiscal 2027 budget proposal also allocated $2.3 billion for MSS and the Joint Fires Network combined, marking a significant increase from prior funding cycles and underscoring why investors are watching the program’s next procurement milestones closely.

Maven’s military applications

DiPalma said MSS has been described in defense circles as “equally critical on the battlefield as the most vital munitions.” The platform has been used with large language model integration for mission preparation, intelligence analysis, and target identification during Operation Epic Fury and Operation Absolute Resolve.

William Blair’s analysis suggests MSS has been the main driver behind Palantir’s U.S. government revenue growth, which rose from 5% in Q4 2023 to 90% in Q2 2026.

In total, Palantir reported 79% revenue growth over the trailing 12 months through Q2 2026, while maintaining gross profit margins of 84.8%.

Wall Street analyst views

Palantir’s Q2 2026 results exceeded FactSet consensus on several key measures. Revenue came in 6.8% above expectations, operating income beat estimates by 10.5%, and free cash flow was 9% higher than expected.

Following the results, UBS raised its price target to $220, citing revenue growth acceleration to 93% and improved full-year guidance pointing to 82% growth.

Truist Securities increased its target to $223, pointing to sovereign AI demand as a key growth driver. Truist kept its Buy rating and emphasized Palantir’s advantage in attracting top AI engineering talent.

Phillip Securities lifted its target to $215 after revising fiscal 2026 revenue and net income estimates upward by 6%.

Benchmark kept its Hold rating while noting Palantir’s improved Rule of 155 performance metric.

William Blair identified competition from large language models as the main risk, arguing that former Palantir engineers could potentially build similar capabilities on LLM platforms at lower cost. The firm also said MSS deployment momentum could slow if political leadership changes.

Palantir’s market capitalization is currently $420.73 billion, while InvestingPro says the stock is trading above its Fair Value estimate.
