OR3 targets early cash flow with Kangaroo Hills lithium DSO strategy

Ore Resources (ASX: OR3) is targeting early cash flow from its Kangaroo Hills lithium project in Western Australia after completing a positive scoping study for a direct shipping ore (DSO) operation.

Speaking to HotCopper on this edition of The Watchlist, managing director Nick Rathjen outlined a strategy centred on a capital-light development model that uses contract mining, crushing and logistics to accelerate production.

The study covers open-pit mining, crushing, trucking and export of lithium-bearing pegmatite ore. The company is targeting a final investment decision, project commencement and first DSO production by mid-2027.

Rathjen said the DSO model could offer a rapid route to cash generation while keeping upfront capital requirements low, a key consideration in lithium projects where processing builds can require substantial time and capital before any revenue is generated.

That makes the scoping study an important milestone for the company because it frames Kangaroo Hills as a potential near-term development rather than a longer-dated processing-led project, while still leaving the next stages dependent on further technical, commercial and permitting work.
