OPay, one of Nigeria's leading fintech companies, has taken home two major honours at the fifth edition of the Consumers Value Awards (CVA), underlining the level of confidence Nigerian consumers continue to place in the brand.
At a ceremony held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, in Ikeja, Lagos, OPay was named winner of the Most Trusted Brand Award (FinTech) as well as the Most Consumer-Friendly/Innovative FinTech Brand Award.
The margins were decisive. OPay captured 70.1 per cent of total valid votes in the Most Trusted Brand (FinTech) category, while recording 70.2 per cent in the Most Consumer-Friendly/Innovative FinTech Brand category.
What sets the CVA honours apart is that they are decided entirely by consumers. According to the Consumers Value Awards, members of the public nominate brands they believe have delivered genuine value, after which shortlisted nominees advance to a nationwide public voting exercise. The brand with the highest number of valid votes in each category is declared the winner. The recognition therefore goes beyond an industry accolade: it reflects the everyday choices of the people who actually use and interact with financial technology services. Now in its fifth edition, the awards have become a recurring barometer of how Nigerian consumers rate the brands competing for their daily financial activity.
Two senior OPay figures commented on the awards. Odiase Ikponmwosa Kolawole, Head of Partnerships at OPay, said the recognition reflected the relationship the company has built with its customers, adding: “This award belongs to our customers. Their trust challenges us to keep delivering simple, reliable and innovative financial services that make everyday life easier.”
Isimeme Ayobami Owobu, Team Director, Key Account Merchants, Retail and FMCG at OPay, said the awards reinforce the company's commitment to keeping consumers and merchants at the centre of its services. “Being recognised by consumers is deeply meaningful. We will continue to listen, improve and create solutions that deliver real value to Nigerians,” Owobu said.
The double win comes as OPay marks eight years of operations in Nigeria. Since launching in the country in 2018, the company has built a broad financial services platform serving consumers and businesses nationwide, with payments, transfers, savings and merchant services at the core of its offering. OPay is installed on 69 per cent of smartphones in Nigeria, more than any other fintech app in the country. A consumer-voted verdict at that scale offers a snapshot of how Nigerians currently rank the platforms they rely on for everyday payments and transfers.
The company continues to position trust, accessibility, innovation and consumer experience at the heart of its work. For OPay, the two awards carry a clear message from consumers: the value of a financial service is ultimately measured by the confidence people have in using it every day. With both executives framing continued listening and service improvement as the priority, the measure going forward will be how the company sustains that confidence beyond its eighth year in the Nigerian market.
OPay was established in 2018 as a leading fintech company in Nigeria with the mission of making financial services more inclusive through technology. Its payment services span money transfers, bill payments, card services, airtime and data purchases, and merchant payments, among others. Known for its fast, reliable network and strong security features that protect customers' funds, the company is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), with the same insurance coverage as commercial banks — a regulatory baseline that gives the “Most Trusted” label concrete weight for consumers weighing digital platforms against traditional banks.
