Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer NIO is scheduled to release its Q2 2026 financial results on Tuesday, September 1, before the opening bell in U.S. trading. The stock is trading near $4.37, down 93% from its peak valuation, although it has recovered significantly from the $3.14 low reached in early 2025.
Financial analysts expect NIO to report a loss of $0.05 per share, a marked improvement from the $0.28-per-share loss posted in the same quarter of 2025. Revenue is projected at $4.95 billion, nearly double the $2.63 billion reported in Q2 2025.
The options market is currently pricing in about 8.76% movement in either direction after the earnings release. That implied move is above NIO’s average post-earnings volatility of 5.76% across the previous four quarterly reports.
Vehicle deliveries reached 107,658 units in Q2 2026, up 49.4% from a year earlier. The total came in slightly below management’s forecast range of 110,000 to 115,000 units, making the earnings update a test of how much volume growth has flowed through to revenue and margins. Earlier guidance called for Q2 revenue between RMB 32.78 billion and RMB 34.44 billion.
Profitability remains the key focus
Sustainable profitability continues to be the main issue for investors. NIO posted an 18.8% vehicle margin in Q1 2026 and reported positive non-GAAP operating results. Management has said it is targeting vehicle margins of 17% to 18% throughout calendar year 2026.
The market has already shown how strongly it can react to profitability. When NIO reported net income of $17.1 million in Q4 2025, the stock jumped 20% immediately. That rally later extended to a 45.6% gain over the following trading weeks.
After the company returned to losses in Q1 2026, the share price fell sharply and has remained under pressure. Another profitable quarter could change that direction, but the coming report will be judged first on whether the company can keep improving margins while scaling deliveries.
Trailing 12-month revenue has risen to $14.3 billion, while vehicle deliveries through July 31 reached 227,057 units, up 68% from the same period in 2025. Revenue growth has not been the main challenge; achieving durable profitability has.
Brand expansion and battery swapping remain in view
Investors are also watching NIO’s brand diversification efforts. The ONVO L80 SUV began customer deliveries in May, the updated L60 has added more variety to the lineup, and the lower-priced Firefly brand continues to expand. A key question is whether higher volume from these models will affect overall profitability.
NIO’s battery-swapping network is also growing. The company says it has now completed more than 100 million battery exchanges and is deploying fifth-generation swap stations. The system allows customers to replace depleted battery packs with fully charged ones in minutes, while also enabling NIO to lower upfront vehicle prices by shifting battery costs into recurring subscription models.
Management is targeting delivery growth of 40% to 50% for full-year 2026. That backdrop makes Tuesday’s results important not just for the headline earnings figures, but also for evidence that NIO can translate broader product rollout and delivery growth into a more consistent operating profile. According to TipRanks analytics, NIO carries a Moderate Buy rating with a mean price target of $6.50, implying about 46% upside from current levels.
