Foreign institutional investors reduced holdings in most Nifty IT stocks during the June quarter, even as the sector rebounded sharply in July. The Nifty IT index surged 16% last month, despite weak participation from foreign investors earlier in the quarter.

According to the report, Oracle Financial Services Software recorded the largest increase in foreign investor stake. By contrast, FIIs trimmed exposure in seven of the Nifty IT constituents.

Mutual funds also reduced their holdings, cutting stakes in nine of the 10 Nifty IT companies. The article said some foreign investors now see opportunities in IT stocks after a period of underperformance and lower valuations, even as the sector remains sensitive to spending trends in global technology budgets.

The sector, however, continues to face challenges from artificial intelligence and broader global economic conditions, which helps explain why ownership changes can diverge from short-term price moves. For investors tracking the space, the key backdrop remains quarterly shareholding data alongside client demand and management commentary from the large IT names that dominate the index.
