Nextnova has released details on the silicon solar cell manufacturing facility it is building outside Oklahoma City. The new brand is a partner of Thornova Solar, which first began supplying solar panels to the U.S. market in 2022.
Nextnova will manufacture p-type solar cells in a 450,000-square-foot building formerly operated by Xerox in Yukon, Oklahoma. The company says mass production is expected to begin in Q1 2027, with an initial annual manufacturing capacity of 2 GW. The site can be expanded to 6 GW. The Oklahoma facility is expected to support 300 jobs.
"As a next-generation U.S. manufacturer, Nextnova is committed to providing customers with premium solar cells backed by transparent sourcing, documented quality and scalable production — supporting the continued growth of a secure, resilient and competitive American solar industry," the company says on its website.
Thornova says it currently operates a cell and module production facility in Kenya and has access to 2.5 GW of production capacity in Indonesia. Thornova has also used U.S. OEMs to produce product on American soil. Nextnova’s Oklahoma project adds another U.S.-based manufacturing option to a supply chain that already spans multiple regions, a detail that may matter to buyers watching where solar components are produced and assembled as the company builds out capacity.
No details were provided on where Nextnova cells will be sold or assembled.
