MoneyGram Expands Cash-to-Crypto Ramps to Solana

MoneyGram has expanded its Ramps service to the Solana blockchain, enabling wallets, exchanges, and developers on the network to offer cash-to-crypto and crypto-to-cash conversions through its global payments infrastructure.

Ramps previously operated exclusively on Stellar, making Solana the second blockchain to support the service. The expansion to a second network signals MoneyGram's intent to treat Ramps as a multi-chain product rather than tying it to a single ecosystem. Rift is the first Solana (SOL) wallet to integrate Ramps, allowing users to move between cryptocurrency and local currencies via MoneyGram's network.

In an X post announcing the launch, Solana said MoneyGram serves more than 60 million customers through nearly 500,000 retail locations across more than 170 countries. The Ramps service is now accessible to Solana developers through a single API.

According to MoneyGram, Ramps supports cash deposits in more than 25 countries and cash withdrawals in more than 170 countries and territories. Cash-based on- and off-ramps are particularly relevant in regions where banking penetration is limited and retail money transfer outlets remain a primary financial touchpoint. The service has also been integrated into the Solana Developer Platform's payments module, enabling developers to add MoneyGram's fiat infrastructure without building their own banking integrations — a common barrier for crypto applications seeking to reach non-banked users.

The company said the Solana launch is part of a broader effort to make Ramps available across multiple blockchain ecosystems. Solana, which emphasizes high transaction throughput and low fees, has been actively positioning itself for payments and consumer-facing applications.

In June, MoneyGram became a Solana validator, staking SOL and processing transactions on the network. The company also joined the Solana Developer Platform as part of that expansion.
