“Music For Love & Peace” concert in Alabang

On Saturday, Aug. 22, the Casa Miani (Somascan Fathers) Foundation, Inc. presents Music For Love & Peace at 7:30 p.m., headlined by Raymond Lauchengco, Pops Fernandez, and Jon Santos, with Ding Mercado as concert director. The headliners each bring decades of experience to the bill: Lauchengco is a mainstay of 1980s Original Pilipino Music, Fernandez has long been billed as the country’s “Concert Queen,” and Santos is a veteran comedian known for his stage impersonations. Curator’s Tours at Ayala Museum for History Month

In celebration of History Month — August is observed nationwide as Buwan ng Kasaysayan — Ayala Museum is holding back-to-back Curator’s Tours on Aug. 22 and 23. Curators Tenten Mina and Jei Ente will take visitors behind the scenes to share the stories and curatorial vision behind the museum’s newest exhibitions: Sinulid at Hibla, about the traditions of Philippine textiles, set for Aug. 22 at 2:30 p.m., and Turning Tides, about Philippine maritime encounters and exchanges of power, set for Aug. 23 at 2:30 p.m. The paired themes of weaving traditions and seaborne exchange are in keeping with the museum’s long-standing focus on Philippine history and culture. Cinderella opens for young audiences

Repertory Philippines — founded in 1967 and one of the country’s longest-running professional theater companies — presents Cinderella: The Tale of the Glass Slipper through its Repertory Theater for Young Audiences, starting this weekend and running every weekend until Dec. 13. Directed by Joy Virata and Cara Barredo, the show is created by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman (book, music, and lyrics). Katie Bradshaw, Ornella Brianna, and Julia Santiago share the title role, while Khalil Tambio and Radson Flores alternate as the Prince. Performances are scheduled for Aug. 22 at 1:20 p.m. and Aug. 23 at 3:30 p.m. at the REP Eastwood Theater, 4F Eastwood Citywalk, Quezon City. Philippine Ballet Theatre stages Andres KKK

Philippine Ballet Theatre (PBT), the National Performing Arts Company for Dance, presents Gener Caringal’s ballet Andres KKK on Aug. 22 at 3 and 7 p.m., and on Aug. 23 at 3 p.m., at the Proscenium Theater, Proscenium at Rockwell, Estrella St., Rockwell Center, Makati. The title draws from the Kataastaasan, Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan, the revolutionary society that launched the 1896 Philippine uprising against Spanish rule and which Bonifacio led. First staged in 1996 to commemorate the centennial of the Philippine Revolution, Andres KKK — with a libretto by Lilia Quindoza Santiago and an original score by Jesse Lucas — has become one of Caringal’s signature works. Matthew Davo and Dominador Delmo dance the title role of Andres Bonifacio, while Jessa Tangalin and Sophia Tiangco alternate as Gregoria “Oryang” de Jesus. Mini Japanese tapestry workshop at The M

The Metropolitan Museum of Manila in BGC will hold a one-day workshop about tenugui, Japanese cloths filled with patterns. Participants will learn how the cloths are dyed and then celebrate local culture by adding Filipino flair to their own creations. Using pabalat paper-cut stencils — pabalat being the Filipino folk art of intricately cut wrappers traditionally used to dress pastillas, the milk-based sweets associated with Bulacan — participants can make mini screenprinted tenugui to take home, plus a sweet pastillas wrapped in a real pabalat design. Facilitated by Jan Vincent Ong, the workshop is set for Aug. 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the museum’s third-floor M Art Studio. Digital Walker marks 20th anniversary

The “Walk Into the Future” shopping event marks the 20th anniversary of Digital Walker, the homegrown gadget-and-accessories retailer that opened its first store two decades ago. The four-day celebration runs until Aug. 23 at the Palm Drive Activity Center of the Glorietta Mall in Makati City, featuring interactive experiences, games, giveaways, raffle prizes, and exclusive anniversary offers for the public. Tagay Para Sa Ex at FEU

Boxstage Manila presents Tagay Para Sa Ex, a play set during a drinking session among five friends who begin to question their own emotional maturity, confront their differing moral views, and reflect on the choices they have made in love and in life. Written and directed by Dudz Teraña, the cast includes Jonas Cunanan, Buknoy Gonzales, Brigitta Marilla, Karyl Oliva, RB Pascua, Jel Tarun, Kloren Flores, Kobie Hachero, and AJ Sison. Performances take place on Aug. 22 and Sept. 5, at 3 and 7 p.m., at the FEU Center for the Arts Black Box Studio at Far Eastern University Manila, a format that keeps audiences close to the drinking-table drama. Mga Binago ng Araw, a play with music

Mad Child Productions presents Guelan Varela-Luarca’s Mga Binago ng Araw — the playwright is known for his Filipino-language work for the stage — described as “a play with music” and a “return to youth.” Directed by Monty Uy, Jam Binay and Zoë de Ocampo lead the cast, which includes Vino Mabalot, Maliana Beran, Francesca Dela Cruz, and Rafael Jimenez. Performances are set for Aug. 22 and 23 at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Old Communications Black Box Theater, Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan Ave., Quezon City. Tickets cost P1,700.

Kidtopia Mini Stations at Ortigas malls

Play and learning come together at the Kidtopia Mini Stations, open at GH Mall until Aug. 31 and at Estancia until Sept. 30. The educational and interactive experience is designed to keep kids engaged and create memories with family. A Kid Sensory Station and Mini Competition Stations let children play, learn, and make new friends. Shoppers must present a P3,000 single receipt to access the Kidtopia Mini Stations, and children receive a Kids Passport to collect stamps and enjoy rewards with every visit.

Saturday printmaking classes at The M

The Metropolitan Museum of Manila (The M) is holding a series of printmaking workshops every Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., until November. Open to beginners and experienced makers alike (ages 12 and above), the hands-on workshops introduce a range of printmaking techniques while encouraging participants to create original prints and experiment with color and editions. The sessions are led by printmakers Ambie Abaño, Henrielle Baltazar Pagkaliwangan, Jone Sibugan, and Anton Villaruel, and registration for the series remains open. Together with this weekend’s one-day tenugui session, the series rounds out a growing education lineup at the museum. Porvenir stages El Fuego del Alma

Theater group Porvenir is presenting a Filipino adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke — first produced on Broadway in 1948 — called El Fuego del Alma, reimagined within a Philippine context. Adapted by playwright Eljay Castro Deldoc and directed by Mark Mirando, the play follows Alma Ortega, a woman caught between spiritual devotion and earthly desire. Nour Hooshmand, Hariette Mozelle, and Opaline Santos alternate as Alma, with Sandino Martin and Vincent Pajara as Juanito. The cast also includes Madeleine Nicolas, Rolando Inocencio, Sheryll Ceasico, JP Lopez, Janna Cortes, Ingrid Joyce, Johnny Maglinao, and Tristan Bite.
