Maya’s Visa wallet cards become available on Google Pay
Key Takeaways
- •Google Pay is now available for all Maya Visa wallet cards, expanding beyond the credit card rollout introduced in November 2025.
- •Visa tokenization replaces card numbers with digital tokens, helping prevent actual account details from being shared or stored on devices.
- •Maya said more than 71% of Asia-Pacific consumers prefer mobile or smart devices for payments, while 97% of regional travelers want to use payment cards when traveling.
- •All newly produced Maya wallet cards are now made with 100% recycled plastic, and the company marked the change with the Maya Bukad Card.

Maya’s Visa wallet cards can now be linked to Google Wallet and Google Pay, allowing more users to make cashless payments through near field communication-enabled Android devices.
The rollout extends Google Pay availability to all Maya Visa cards, including both physical and virtual cards.
“This expands on Maya’s earlier Google Wallet and Google Pay rollout for credit cardholders in November 2025, when it was one of the first issuers in the Philippines to launch the payment technology,” Visa said in a statement on Thursday.
“Now, Maya wallet cardholders can pay using Google Pay across shops, public transport, and tourist destinations, giving consumers more options to pay while encouraging merchants to embrace digital payments acceptance.”
Google Pay transactions are supported by Visa’s tokenization technology. The system helps reduce fraud by replacing actual card numbers with unique digital tokens, preventing cardholders’ real account information from being shared with merchants or stored on devices.
“The Philippines is undergoing a rapid shift to contactless, digital payments, and Visa and Maya are playing a crucial role in enabling this transformation. With every contactless transaction, we provide speed, convenience, and security for Filipino consumers, reinforcing adoption and trust in new payment technologies. This also aligns closely with the government’s vision to become a cash-lite economy,” Visa Philippines Country Manager Jeffrey V. Navarro said.
“At Maya, we are committed to giving our customers smarter and more convenient ways to manage their money and pay for everyday purchases. Enabling Google Pay for Maya Visa wallet cards extends the simplicity and flexibility our users expect, allowing them to make secure contactless payments using the mobile phones and devices they already use every day,” Maya Group President and Maya Bank, Inc. Co-Founder Shailesh Baidwan said.
Visa said more than 71% of consumers across Asia-Pacific already prefer using mobile or smart devices for in-store or online payment transactions. Its research also found that 97% of travelers in the region want to use credit, debit, or prepaid cards when traveling, while only 17% intend to bring cash.
Recycled plastic cards
Maya separately said it had completed its transition to 100% recycled plastic for all newly produced wallet cards ahead of its year-end target. The company began rolling out wallet cards made from recycled polyvinyl chloride in June.
“The move makes more responsible materials the standard across its wallet card portfolio,” Maya said in a separate statement. “With the transition fully implemented, all newly produced Maya wallet cards — whether Mastercard or Visa — are now made from 100% recycled plastic while maintaining the security, durability and functionality customers expect.”
To mark the milestone, Maya is introducing the special-edition Maya Bukad Card, a nature-inspired Visa card created in collaboration with Filipino visual artist and illustrator Raxenne Maniquiz.
“Meaningful sustainability efforts are the ones built into how a business operates. By completing our transition to recycled plastic for wallet cards, we are bringing that principle into products our customers use every day. It is a practical expression of how we want to build and grow Maya responsibly,” Mr. Baidwan said.
“Bukad brings this transition to life through art and design. Raxenne’s work connects the nature that inspired the design with the recycled material behind the card. It reflects how we can support local creative talent while making more thoughtful choices about the resources we use.”
