GCash's Market Debut Seen as Valuation Benchmark for Maya's Planned 2027 IPO

The recent stock market debut of GCash parent Mynt, Inc. could serve as a valuation benchmark for financial technology company Maya's planned initial public offering (IPO) in 2027, although analysts noted that the performance of GCash shares could influence investor expectations. It is a familiar dynamic in equity markets, where recent listings often become reference points for how investors size subsequent offerings in the same sector.

"One potential challenge, however, would be a slowdown in GCash's growth or a downward rating of its valuation, which could make it more difficult for Maya to justify a comparable valuation. Nevertheless, we believe GCash's IPO has established a favorable valuation benchmark that Maya aims to replicate," COL Financial Group, Inc. Research Analyst Paolo Miguel Manansala said in a Viber message on Tuesday.

Maya Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan recently said the company was targeting an IPO in 2027, with a preference for a Philippine listing while remaining open to a potential listing in the United States. The planned offering follows the October stock market debut of Mynt, the parent company of GCash.

According to Mr. Manansala, a potential dual listing could give Maya access to a broader investor base and help the company achieve its target valuation.

"We'd like to think a dual listing is more likely as [PLDT] owns only 39% of the company. This could help achieve its desired valuation as the greater liquidity from other exchanges provides a broader investor base," he said.

Globalinks Securities and Stocks, Inc. Head of Sales Trading Toby Allan C. Arce said "Maya could attract investors seeking exposure to the country's growing digital financial services industry, particularly following GCash's landmark listing." He added that investors would likely assess Maya's profitability, customer monetization, lending growth, and credit quality before participating in the offering.

The planned IPO is intended to raise fresh capital for Maya while providing an opportunity for existing investors to sell their shares. PLDT Inc. plans to retain its stake in the financial technology company. Maya's shareholders include PLDT and First Pacific Co. Ltd., which together hold a 39.6% stake, as well as KKR & Co., Tencent Holdings, and the International Finance Corp.

COL Financial Group First Vice-President for Corporate Strategy and Chief Investor Relations Officer April Lynn Lee-Tan said Maya's earnings growth would be among the factors influencing investor interest.

"As long as it is growing there will be interest. Timing could be better but if earnings are still growing regardless of economic conditions, it should be fine. Might just not get as high of a valuation," she said.

Mr. Arce said a 2027 listing could provide a reasonable window for Maya if interest rates stabilize and domestic equity market conditions improve.

"Investor confidence improves and the domestic equity market becomes more receptive to large offerings. Nevertheless, the success of Maya listing will depend heavily on pricing and market conditions. The strong interest surrounding GCash's IPO does not automatically guarantee similar demand for Maya," he said.

PLDT earlier said Maya remained profitable in the first half of 2026, contributing to the telecommunications company's core net income during the period. That record gives prospective investors an early datapoint on the earnings criteria analysts flagged.

Looking toward the targeted 2027 window, the observable markers analysts identified include GCash's post-listing share performance, the direction of interest rates, the domestic equity market's receptiveness to large offerings, and Maya's own earnings growth.
