MARA-Linked Wallets Move 1,000 BTC Worth $82.8 Million to Exchanges in Five Days

Bitcoin traded near $82,800 on October 19 as wallets linked to MARA Holdings transferred another 1,000 BTC to cryptocurrency exchanges, according to blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain, which valued the transactions at approximately $82.8 million. The deposits — sent to Binance and Gate over five days through multiple transactions — renewed attention on the treasury strategy of MARA, one of the largest publicly traded Bitcoin miners, following substantial sales earlier this year, although on-chain movements alone do not establish that the company has completed another sale.

Meanwhile, Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor maintained a bullish outlook, saying Bitcoin is returning to a bull market, as technical analysts monitored resistance near $83,400 and $85,000.

Exchange Deposits Raise Questions Without Confirming a Sale

According to Lookonchain, wallets linked to MARA sent Bitcoin to Binance and Gate through multiple transactions. Exchange deposits can precede asset sales, but wallet movements by themselves cannot establish a completed trade. The available records do not show whether MARA exchanged the coins for cash or moved them for another purpose, and transfers to trading firms can also involve custody changes or collateral arrangements. Miner-linked deposits nonetheless draw outsized attention because exchanges are the primary venues for converting Bitcoin into cash, making large transfers a standard signal analysts use to gauge potential miner supply.

The latest movement follows another transfer earlier this month. On October 8, a MARA-linked address moved approximately 996 BTC, valued at nearly $81 million, to a wallet associated with Galaxy Digital. MARA has not publicly explained the purpose of the October transfers. Its SEC filings, where realized sales are disclosed, would be where any additional selling is first confirmed. The wallet activity was also tracked on X by WuBlockchain.

MARA Previously Sold Bitcoin to Fund Operations

MARA sold 23,093 BTC for roughly $1.63 billion during the first six months of 2026, according to its second-quarter financial report. The sales generated cash for daily operations and debt repayments — a drawdown approach that contrasts with the accumulation-first treasuries of corporate holders such as Strategy, which has built its Bitcoin position around long-term ownership.

The company also revised its treasury policy earlier this year, giving it more flexibility to sell Bitcoin from its reserves; previously, its sales had focused on newly mined coins. By June 30, MARA held 35,577 BTC, down from 53,822 BTC at the close of 2025.

Bitcoin has also been put to work within the treasury itself. June holdings included 4,742 BTC loaned to counterparties and 4,528 BTC pledged as collateral, and MARA subsequently arranged $600 million in additional Bitcoin-backed financing with Coinbase and Two Prime. Credit lines of this kind let miners raise cash while retaining ownership of the coins, an alternative to selling on the open market.

During the second quarter, MARA 2,422 BTC and sold 2,213 BTC at an average price of $73,078. The company reported second-quarter revenue of $174.9 million alongside a quarterly net loss of $611.3 million. MARA has been expanding into artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure alongside Bitcoin mining — a capital-intensive buildout — and management has previously said it could sell additional Bitcoin depending on liquidity needs, market conditions, and capital spending.

Bitcoin Price Faces Resistance Between $83,400 and $85,000

Bitcoin traded around $82,800 at the time of writing after recovering from a recent decline. Price action approached the $83,000 level, with resistance remaining near $83,400 and a higher supply zone extending from roughly $84,400 to $85,300.

Trader Lennaert Snyder said in an X post that Bitcoin began the week by filling a four-hour wick near $82,200, and he identified $83,400 and $85,000 as possible areas of renewed selling interest. On the downside, the analyst pointed to approximately $81,100 followed by the recent low near $79,800 if support fails, with intermediate support marked around $82,100.

Saylor Points to a Return to Bull Market Conditions

Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor recently said Bitcoin was returning to a bull market. In a presentation at ParaFi Investor Day 2026, he compared Bitcoin's price with its 200-week moving average, with the chart showing Bitcoin trading 24% above that long-term level — a threshold it has exceeded for 77% of its trading history — while recovering from earlier declines.

Saylor also pointed to potential growth in bank custody, Bitcoin-backed lending, and securities tokenization over the next 12 to 24 months.
