Mahindra Holidays Receives ₹11.34 Crore GST Show-Cause Notice Over Alleged Tax Shortfall

Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India Ltd. has received a show-cause notice from tax authorities demanding ₹11.34 crore under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, CNBC-TV18 reported.

The notice spans four financial years and primarily concerns two issues: an alleged short payment of tax on services in the state of Uttarakhand, and differences in reported turnover.

Mahindra Holidays, part of the Mahindra Group, operates the Club Mahindra timeshare and resort business across India, where resort services fall under GST. Disputes over state-wise tax payments and turnover reporting are recurring features of India's GST regime, which has generated a large volume of show-cause notices to businesses since its introduction in 2017.

The company said it does not expect the matter to have a material financial impact on its operations.

Show-cause notices under India's GST framework require the recipient to explain why the alleged tax liability should not be enforced, and recipients have the opportunity to respond before any final demand is confirmed. If a demand is ultimately upheld, applicable interest and penalties may also be levied under the GST law.
