Maersk Agrees to Sell Maersk Training to Open Gate Capital

A.P. Moller – Maersk announced on Friday that it has entered into an agreement to sell Maersk Training, along with its subsidiary Maersk H2S Safety Services, to Open Gate Capital, a firm specializing in industrial corporate carve-outs. The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

The divestment aligns with Maersk's ongoing strategy of focusing on its core brands and reflects the strong market positions that Maersk Training and Maersk H2S Services have built over the years. Maersk has spent several years streamlining its portfolio away from energy and industrial services toward its integrated container logistics business, including past divestments such as Maersk Oil to Total in 2018 and the demerger of Maersk Drilling in 2019. Under Open Gate Capital's ownership, the business is expected to pursue growth with a dedicated focus on training, gas detection, safety, and workforce competency solutions.

"Maersk Training has built a strong business with highly skilled colleagues, trusted customer relationships and a solid foundation for future growth. We believe this transaction will enable Maersk Training to continue developing under an owner with training, safety and competency solutions as a key focus area, creating new opportunities for customers, employees and the business alike," said Katharina Poehlmann, Head of Strategy at A.P. Moller – Maersk and Chairwoman of Maersk Training.

For more than four decades, Maersk Training has delivered specialized training, competence development, and safety services to sectors including energy, maritime, renewables, and logistics, helping customers manage operational risk and workforce safety. These services occupy a growing niche as offshore wind, renewables, and energy-transition projects drive demand for certified workforce safety and competency training across global markets.

David Skov, CEO of Maersk Training, described the agreement as an important milestone. "The agreement recognises the strong business we have built together over the past 40+ years. While many of us are proud of our Maersk heritage, we are equally excited about the opportunities this next chapter brings under an owner that has experience in unlocking long-term value and will enable our strategic focus. Until the transaction closes, our focus remains unchanged: serving our customers, supporting one another and delivering on our commitments and ambitions," he said.

The transaction is expected to close later in 2026. Until then, Maersk Training will continue to operate as part of A.P. Moller – Maersk, with employees, customers, and partners anticipated to experience business as usual throughout the transition.
