A.P. Moller - Maersk has agreed to sell its Maersk Training business and its subsidiary Maersk H2S Safety Services to the private equity firm OpenGate Capital.

The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, and is expected to close later in 2026, Maersk said in a press release on Friday.

According to the company, the sale reflects Maersk's strategic focus on developing its core brands. The divestment is the latest in a series of non-core asset sales by Maersk as it sharpens its focus on integrated container logistics, having previously exited energy and oil-related businesses in recent years. Under OpenGate Capital's ownership, the divested businesses will continue to concentrate on training, gas detection, safety, and workforce competency solutions.

Maersk Training has delivered training, competence development, and safety services for more than 40 years, serving industries that include maritime, energy, renewables, and logistics. The business operates training centers in multiple countries, providing specialized courses for offshore and industrial sectors. Its H2S safety services are particularly relevant to oil and gas operations, where hydrogen sulfide exposure poses significant workplace hazards.

OpenGate Capital is a Los Angeles-based private equity firm that focuses on acquiring and operating businesses across a range of industries. The firm specializes in corporate carve-outs, making Maersk Training a fit for its portfolio strategy of acquiring non-core divisions from large corporations and operating them as standalone entities.

Until the transaction closes, Maersk Training will continue to operate as part of Maersk. Employees, customers, and partners are expected to see business continue as usual during the transition period.
