Macmahon Contractors, a subsidiary of mining and civil infrastructure services provider Macmahon Holdings (ASX: MAH), has been awarded a 42-month contract extension at the Telfer gold mine in Western Australia.
The contract, covering the asset operated by Greatland Resources (ASX: GGP), is valued at $485 million over the 42-month term. Macmahon has been delivering mining services at the Telfer gold mine since 2015.
Telfer is a long-established gold-copper operation in the remote Paterson Province of Western Australia. The mine was previously operated by Newcrest Mining, before Greatland acquired the asset in December 2023 as part of a broader transaction that also included a majority interest in the nearby Havieron gold-copper project. The Telfer extension continues a contractor relationship that has spanned both the Newcrest and Greatland ownership eras.
Macmahon Managing Director and CEO Michael Finnegan said the Telfer extension represents a significant expansion of mining operations within West Dome Stage 7, including increased mining volumes and the delivery of full mining services — drill and blast, load and haul, and associated operational activities.
"This extension represents an important milestone in our partnership with Greatland and reinforces the strategic importance of Telfer to our business and reflects our proven track record of operational performance on site for over a decade," he said.
"We are proud of the contribution our people have made over this period and look forward to supporting Greatland as it advances Telfer's next phase of growth and value creation. We remain focused on delivering safe, reliable and productive outcomes while strengthening our collaboration with Greatland."
The Telfer award adds to a strong run of contract success for Macmahon. Earlier this month, the company was selected by Medallion Metals (ASX: MM8) as the preferred underground mining contractor for the Ravensthorpe gold project in WA. The scope of works includes portal establishment, underground development, production and ancillary works, with activity expected to commence in the December quarter of 2026. That contract carries an initial term of 36 months and is valued at approximately $240 million.
A day earlier, another wholly owned subsidiary, Macmahon New Zealand, landed a $406 million underground mining services contract at the Snowy River gold mine project.
Together, the Telfer, Ravensthorpe and Snowy River awards represent more than $1.1 billion in contract value, adding multi-year contracted revenue visibility across Macmahon's Australian and New Zealand operations, a hallmark of the contract mining model in which providers hold long-dated agreements with mine owners. At Telfer specifically, work under the expanded West Dome Stage 7 scope runs through the 42-month term as Greatland advances its broader Paterson Province portfolio, which also includes Havieron.
Prior to the market open, MAH shares were steady at $1.02, with a market capitalisation of $2.208 billion.
