Lloyd's Register (LR) has appointed Wouter Pattynama as Executive Client Solutions Manager, Offshore, bolstering the classification society's offshore energy expertise and broadening client support across Australia, New Zealand, and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Based in Perth, Western Australia, Pattynama brings nearly 30 years of international experience across the maritime, offshore energy, and oil and gas sectors. His appointment reinforces LR's commitment to serving clients in offshore oil and gas, renewables, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and other emerging energy fields. The move comes as APAC nations accelerate offshore wind development — with Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea among countries advancing large-scale projects — while Australia continues to develop its offshore electricity infrastructure framework, creating demand for independent assurance across both traditional and new energy sectors.

Pattynama joins LR from Australia's offshore petroleum regulator, the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA), where he held senior executive leadership positions with oversight of offshore safety, environmental management, and regulatory assurance. His transition from the regulatory side to a classification society bridges two complementary perspectives on compliance and risk, giving clients insight into both regulatory expectations and technical assurance standards. Throughout his career, he has developed deep expertise across the entire vessel lifecycle — from initial design through life extension and eventual decommissioning, an area of growing importance as operators across the region contend with ageing infrastructure and mounting decommissioning obligations.

In his new role, Pattynama will provide assurance, compliance, risk management, and technical advisory services designed to help clients enhance safety, reliability, and operational performance. Offshore operators are currently navigating tightening international regulations alongside the challenges of ageing assets, all while pursuing digital transformation and decarbonisation initiatives. Pattynama's blend of technical, operational, and regulatory experience positions him to help clients manage these evolving demands safely.
