Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), the country's largest life insurer and one of its most influential domestic institutional investors, was an active buyer during the June quarter (Q1FY27), increasing its holdings across several large-cap companies spanning telecom, banking, FMCG, cement, energy, pharmaceuticals, and infrastructure. According to data from Prime Database, the following ten stocks saw the highest net buying by the insurer during the period, with combined net investments exceeding Rs 16,500 crore across these names alone.

Bharti Airtel

LIC raised its holding in Bharti Airtel by 1.47 crore shares, increasing its total stake to 25.82 crore shares from 24.34 crore shares at the end of March. The net investment amounted to Rs 2,721 crore, and the stock gained 3.9% over the quarter.

Maruti Suzuki India

The insurer increased its position in Maruti Suzuki India by 17 lakh shares, bringing its total holding to 1.62 crore shares from 1.45 crore shares. The net purchase value was Rs 2,267 crore, while the stock rose 14.7% during the quarter.

ITC

LIC's holding in ITC grew by 5.84 crore shares, reaching 204.16 crore shares from 198.32 crore shares in the previous quarter. The insurer invested Rs 1,742 crore, even as the stock edged down 0.26%.

Kotak Mahindra Bank

LIC added 3.98 crore shares of Kotak Mahindra Bank, raising its holding to 68.60 crore shares from 64.63 crore shares. Net buying totaled Rs 1,520 crore, and the stock advanced 10.99%.
