Lehmann Marine has increased its maritime battery production capacity with a new manufacturing line at Sunlight Group's industrial complex in Xanthi, northern Greece.

The line has started production following the assembly and quality checks of its first 82 CUBE battery modules, the company said in a statement on its website on Monday.

Modules will be shipped weekly to Lehmann Marine's expanded headquarters in Hittfeld, Germany, where they will undergo final system integration and testing before distribution.

The automated line is expected to reach annual production of up to 300 MWh once fully ramped up. Additional lines can also be added as demand grows.

The expansion brings together Sunlight Group's large-scale battery manufacturing capabilities with Lehmann Marine's marine engineering expertise, with the companies targeting shorter lead times and greater supply chain security for customers.

The added capacity comes as the maritime industry faces tightening emissions regulations, including the International Maritime Organization's strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships and the European Union's inclusion of shipping in its Emissions Trading System from 2024, both of which have driven growing interest in battery-electric and hybrid propulsion for vessels such as ferries, tugs, and offshore support ships.

Each battery system will go through quality checks at both facilities, starting with automated testing in Xanthi and finishing with commissioning in Hittfeld.
