Krakatoa Resources (ASX: KTA) continues to advance exploration activities at the Zopkhito antimony-gold project in Georgia, with multiple work streams underway, including surface and underground drilling, geological modelling, and preparation for metallurgical sampling.

The company said the activities are focused on validating historical data and generating the geological information required to support a maiden JORC-compliant mineral resource estimate (MRE) at Zopkhito. For investors and industry watchers, that means the current program is aimed at converting earlier exploration into a more formal technical framework that can be assessed under JORC standards, rather than relying on historical results alone.

"Our exploration and technical programs are progressing well on all aspects, with underground and surface drilling continuing as planned, and first assay results expected shortly," Chief Executive Officer Mark Major said.

"Surface drilling has now moved to the western zone, where we are targeting several previously undrilled veins, while underground work in the central zone is generating additional geological data and samples for analysis."

Mr Major said the work programs are improving the company's geological understanding of Zopkhito and providing the technical foundation required as Krakatoa progresses towards defining a maiden JORC-compliant mineral resource.

Drilling progress

Surface and underground diamond drilling continues to progress, with 11 surface holes and 27 underground holes completed to date. Surface drilling has now moved from the East zone across to the West zone to complete at least eight drill holes, targeting a series of four to six stacked near-vertical veins.

Assays and metallurgical sampling

Assays from the first batch of samples are expected in mid-September, with the second batch currently at the laboratory and the third batch recently dispatched.

Preparation for metallurgical bulk sampling is complete, and samples are to be collected within weeks, with multiple technical programs progressing in support of a maiden JORC MRE.

Project ownership

Krakatoa is also working on the completion of the acquisition of the initial 10% project ownership. The company holds an exclusive option to acquire up to an 80% interest in the project.
