JungKwanJang Retains Global Ginseng Crown for 12th Consecutive Year

JungKwanJang, the health supplement brand of KGC, has ranked first in the global red ginseng and herbal dietary supplement markets for a 12th consecutive year, according to data from market researcher Euromonitor International. KGC, formerly Korea Tobacco & Ginseng Corporation, is the South Korean state-established enterprise that has long held a monopoly-era heritage in ginseng processing, and JungKwanJang has been its flagship consumer brand for decades.

The brand accounted for 44.3 percent of global red ginseng retail sales in 2024, up from 40.4 percent in 2020. It has led the category every year since the survey began in 2014. JungKwanJang also topped the broader herbal dietary supplement category, holding a 3.5 percent global market share. The results come as consumer demand for immunity-oriented and traditional herbal wellness products has grown worldwide, a trend that accelerated during and after the COVID-19 pandemic and has benefited Korean red ginseng makers in particular.

KGC has been expanding the brand beyond its core red ginseng products. Its portfolio includes long-running lines such as Hongsamjung, Hongsamton and HwaaeRak, alongside newer offerings including Everytime and CheonNok, which emphasize convenience and a wider range of ingredients. The company has also introduced supplements containing agarwood and mushrooms. The push into convenience formats such as stick pouches reflects a broader industry shift toward single-dose, portable supplements aimed at younger consumers.

Flagship product Hongsamjung Everytime has generated more than 1.7 trillion won ($1.24 billion) in sales since its launch in 2012, with annual sales surpassing 100 billion won.

In Korea, JungKwanJang operates more than 1,100 stores and distributes its products through online channels and retailers including Olive Young, the country's largest health and beauty chain.

Overseas, the brand exports to more than 40 countries, including China, Japan and markets across Southeast Asia. In the United States, JungKwanJang entered Sprouts Farmers Market in 2024 and sells its products through Costco and Amazon. It also operated a promotional booth at KCON 2026 in Los Angeles to introduce Korean red ginseng to international consumers, part of wider efforts by Korean consumer brands to ride the global popularity of Korean culture, from K-pop to Korean beauty products.

"We will continue expanding our global business based on the quality of our products," a KGC official said. With its US retail footprint widening through mainstream grocery and club channels, the brand's overseas performance will be a key measure of whether Korean red ginseng can establish itself as a lasting category in Western supplement markets.
