Evolution Equity Partners, a leading venture capital investor, has announced that John Cordo has been named a Partner at the firm, which invests in best-of-breed cybersecurity and artificial intelligence companies.
Cordo, a veteran cybersecurity investor, has spent the past three years at Evolution, working alongside a team of thirty investment professionals focused on backing cybersecurity and AI companies. He recently led investments in Arize, acquired by Dynatrace, and Armis, acquired by ServiceNow. His other investments at the firm include Clay, Cyera, GetReal, Halcyon, Island, Legora, Silverfort, and Torq.
Nearly Fifteen Years of Cybersecurity Investing
Cordo brings close to fifteen years of experience as a cybersecurity investor. He began his career at Blackstone, where he invested from the Blackstone Innovations venture capital portfolio. His notable investments over the course of his career include HUMAN, BigID, and Immuta, as well as CloudGenix (acquired by Palo Alto Networks), CloudKnox (acquired by Microsoft), and Respond Software (acquired by FireEye).
Those outcomes place Cordo's track record alongside some of the largest acquirers in enterprise software and security — Palo Alto Networks, Microsoft, FireEye, Dynatrace, and ServiceNow among them — the same landscape in which Evolution concentrates its cybersecurity and AI investments.
Cordo graduated magna cum laude from Boston College, earning a BS in Finance, Accounting, and Economics through the Carroll School of Management Honors Program.
Leadership Commentary
Richard Seewald, founder and managing partner of Evolution Equity Partners, commented on the announcement.
“Evolution completed a $1.1 billion capital raise expanding our capital base, team, and access to best-of-breed cybersecurity software companies amidst growing investment opportunities,” said Seewald. We are thrilled to welcome John Cordo to the Evolution partnership. John has been a Partner for over the past year, and his extensive experience coupled with strong leadership skills has made him an integral addition to our team.”
Seewald's framing ties the promotion to that $1.1 billion raise, in which he describes team expansion going hand in hand with a larger capital base — and Cordo, already serving in a partner capacity for more than a year, now carries the title formally.
Cordo also commented on his new role.
“Evolution Equity Partners is a differentiated firm due to its cyber-dedicated investors, operators, entrepreneurs, and technologists,” said Cordo. “It has been great working with the team for the past three years. I look forward to seeing what we can achieve together, especially as the cybersecurity and AI markets continue to grow at a pace we’ve never seen before.”
Both executives point to the same backdrop: fresh capital and fast-growing cybersecurity and AI markets. With a thirty-person investment team, an expanded partnership, and $1.1 billion in new capital, how Evolution deploys those resources across its cybersecurity and AI focus areas is the natural next development to watch.
