Japan Bitcoin Industry raises ¥800 million in Bitcoin to build Lightning payments

Japan Bitcoin Industry has announced a new share issuance worth 800,043,580 yen — roughly 800 million yen — that will be paid entirely in Bitcoin, with no cash accepted. Payment is scheduled for November 2. A share sale that accepts only Bitcoin is unusual for a Japanese issuance, where cash settlement is the default, and it means the incoming capital's yen value will track Bitcoin's market price from the moment it is received.

Proceeds from the sale, combined with a business alliance signed with ANAP Lightning Capital, are intended to help Japanese sellers — including those in anime, games, and adult content — get paid by overseas customers without relying on international card brands.

Two investors, one Bitcoin-denominated raise

The company is issuing new shares to two investors: Fulgur, the Japanese arm of US venture firm Fulgur Ventures, and ANAP Lightning Capital (ALC), a subsidiary of Tokyo-listed ANAP Holdings (TSE Standard: 3189).

Once the Bitcoin is received, the funds will go toward building aurora, hiring, the company's routing business, and research.

Alongside the raise, Japan Bitcoin Industry signed a business alliance with ALC on Lightning routing. ALC will supply the Bitcoin that funds Japan Bitcoin Industry's payment channels, and the two firms aim to build what they call a domestic routing base.

The Lightning Network handles Bitcoin payments off the main blockchain through channels that pass payments between users. Small payments move through the system in seconds at low cost, but the channels must be funded in advance. Node operators earn small fees each time a payment hops through their channels, and a channel can only carry payments up to the Bitcoin locked in it — the mechanical reason a routing base needs committed funding behind it.

aurora and a two-year Lightning track record

Founded in November 2024, Japan Bitcoin Industry's main product is aurora, a Lightning payment option that merchants can add to their checkout through an API. The company presented aurora at the Bitcoin Asia conference in Hong Kong in August.

According to the company, payments in Bitcoin mean no one can block a sale, and buyers abroad do not need a card. The firm already operates UseBitcoin, an online shop service that uses Lightning, and has run Lightning systems for two years.

Who is backing the bet?

Since 2019, Fulgur Ventures has invested only in Bitcoin and Lightning companies, and in October 2024 it led Blockstream's $210 million funding round. Rintaro Kawai, the firm's Japan representative, said Fulgur will continue backing Japan Bitcoin Industry and will lead its future rounds.

The two companies also plan to team up on developer training and outreach, centered on Tokyo Bitcoin Base in Yotsuya and in Sado, Niigata Prefecture.

ALC's parent company, ANAP Holdings, lost 4.37 billion yen on the value of its Bitcoin and 7.32 billion yen overall for the year ended August 2026, after recording a 1.22 billion yen gain the year before. ALC itself held around 814 Bitcoin after a transfer in July 2025, and HashKey Group said in April that the wider group holds roughly 1,417 BTC, putting it in Japan's top three listed holders.

Network-wide, Lightning processed about $1.17 billion across 5.22 million transactions in November 2025, with monthly volume up 300% over the year and an average payment of $223. That count was still below the August 2023 peak of 6.6 million transactions. For Japan Bitcoin Industry, those figures describe the payment activity its aurora API and routing business are built to serve, and the November 2 Bitcoin settlement is the next concrete milestone in the plan.
