Janison Education Group named principal technology subcontractor under landmark Scottish government assessment contract

Janison Education Group (ASX: JAN) has been appointed principal technology subcontractor under a major Scottish government contract, securing its first national government assessment reference in the United Kingdom.

The appointment stems from the National Foundation for Educational Research's (NFER) award to deliver SNSA and MCNG — Scotland's national standardised assessment programme. The SNSA (Scottish National Standardised Assessments) and their Gaelic-medium counterparts, the MCNG, assess literacy and numeracy and were introduced in the 2017/18 school year under Scotland's National Improvement Framework. They provide teachers across Scotland with diagnostic assessment data to support learner progress across four key school stages — P1, P4, P7 and S3 — delivered annually at national scale in both English and Gaelic, with pupils completing the assessments online in adaptive format.

NFER is the UK's leading independent provider of educational research and assessment, with over 75 years of delivering assessments and research.

Under a subcontract with NFER, Janison will provide the core assessment delivery platform, with platform go-live targeted for August 2027. The subcontract commences on 21 August 2026 and runs to 21 October 2030, leaving roughly a year between commencement and the targeted go-live, with three one-year extension options exercisable by the Scottish government, taking the potential term to July 2033.

The subcontract total contract value (TCV) for Janison is approximately $14.2 million over the initial four-year term — an average of roughly $3.55 million a year — with potential to increase materially across the full seven-year term if all extension options are exercised.

The company said the contract marks a significant step in its strategy to build market leadership in digital assessment across ANZ and the UK. Janison's selection reflects its proven capability delivering large-scale national assessment programmes in Australia, including NAPLAN, and in New Zealand, including SMART and bilingual delivery.

The agreement also provides a repeatable model for pursuing further UK and European opportunities and reduces Janison's revenue concentration across its ANZ program base. Key milestones ahead include the August 2026 subcontract commencement, the targeted August 2027 platform go-live, and any decision by the Scottish government on the extension options, which would shape the contract's ultimate value and duration.

"This is a landmark moment for Janison. Being selected to deliver Scotland's national assessment programme — our first entry into the UK government assessment market — is a powerful endorsement of our platform, our people, and the strength of our partnership with NFER," CEO Sujata Stead said.

"It marks clear progress against our strategy to grow market share across ANZ and the UK, with partnerships a core pathway to growth. Having extended our proven national-scale delivery from Australia to New Zealand for the first time this year, and now to Scotland, we are proud to bring that experience to Scottish learners and educators," she said.

Shares in JAN were up 18.6% at 11.5¢, with a market capitalisation of $25.20 million. The initial four-year contract value equates to more than half of that market capitalisation, underlining the win's significance relative to Janison's size.
