IREN Limited (IREN) is scheduled to report fourth-quarter and full-year 2026 results on August 27 after the closing bell. IREN's fiscal year ends in June, so the release will cover the April-through-June quarter and close out the company's 2026 fiscal year. The stock fell about 5% to $40.16 during Wednesday trading as investors reduced exposure ahead of the report.
Wall Street expects a loss of $0.46 per share on revenue of $135.6 million. Analyst sentiment heading into the release is cautious. There have been no upward EPS revisions over the past three months, while two analysts have lowered their estimates. Pre-report estimate revisions are a widely followed gauge of analyst sentiment, and the one-sided direction of these changes is consistent with the cautious setup into the print.
Revenue expectations show a similar pattern. Ten analysts have cut revenue estimates, and none have raised them.
What Analysts Are Watching
Beyond the reported numbers, forward guidance is expected to be the main focus. In July, IREN raised its 2026 annual recurring revenue target to more than $4 billion from $3.4 billion after signing multi-year cloud services contracts with leading AI developers worth about $2.8 billion in contract value. ARR — annual recurring revenue — measures the contracted, subscription-style revenue a business expects to repeat each year, which is why forward coverage of the target matters to investors. The raise also underscores how far IREN has moved from its origins as a Bitcoin miner under its former name, Iris Energy, toward AI cloud services, a pivot several power-secured data center operators have made as AI workloads increase demand for GPU capacity.
At the time, the company said roughly 85% of that revised ARR target was already under contract. Seeking Alpha analyst Petri Dish Reports pointed to that level of forward coverage as unusually high for an AI infrastructure company at this stage.
“The way I see it, that level of forward coverage is unusually high for an AI infrastructure name at this stage. What it tells us is that demand isn’t just strong here, it’s already locked in,” the analyst said.
IREN management has also said it expects to deliver 140,000 GPUs by the end of 2026.
Looking further ahead, Passage Research expects IREN’s 2027 ARR to rise to more than $6.5 billion. The same analyst projects AI Cloud ARR reaching $10 billion by 2028 and nearly $11 billion by 2029.
“In 2027, as the business ramps up, capacity comes online, and more GPUs are commissioned. The 1.21 GW in capacity should equate to an ARR that is north of $6.5 billion,” the analyst noted.
Passage Research models $3.1 billion in revenue for next year, slightly above the Street consensus of $3 billion.
Death Cross and Debt Pressure
Wednesday’s decline was driven by more than pre-earnings caution. A technical “death cross” — a chart pattern that forms when a stock’s 50-day moving average crosses below its 200-day moving average and is often read by traders as a bearish signal — has triggered momentum selling, adding to pressure from bearish analyst commentary about the company’s debt load.
Investors are also concerned about IREN’s debt-funded expansion strategy, with some worried that the balance sheet may be stretched. Additional concerns include a possible share overhang following the Mirantis deal and elevated short interest.
IREN’s year-to-date share performance remains up about 12%. The stock’s average daily trading volume is above 45 million shares, and the company’s market capitalization is approximately $14.21 billion.
The company’s secured power portfolio and long-term contracts provide clearer visibility into capacity and revenue heading into the earnings release. The main questions for Thursday’s report are whether management reaffirms the more-than-$4 billion ARR target and the 140,000-GPU delivery goal, and how it plans to fund the remaining build-out given the leverage and share-overhang concerns.
