The rally followed the company's completed acquisitions of Goonhilly Earth Station and COMSAT, two established communications providers. Together, the transactions expand Intuitive Machines' deep space network across the United Kingdom and the United States with significant ground assets.

Acquisitions Extend Ground Station Coverage

With these acquisitions, Intuitive Machines now controls major ground station assets serving lunar and deep space missions. The expanded network increases visibility across several important Earth viewing arcs, giving mission operators more contact opportunities and reducing communication gaps during critical mission windows.

Goonhilly, located in Cornwall, England, has operated as a satellite communications site since the 1960s. Its established deep space antennas provide tracking, telecommand, and telemetry services for civil and commercial spacecraft. COMSAT adds further United States ground infrastructure and communications capacity for commercial and government users. Combined, the two businesses provide Intuitive Machines with a larger operational footprint across two major markets.

The company intends to use the network for communications, data transport, and position, navigation, and timing services. These capabilities support spacecraft tracking, command delivery, telemetry, and mission data transfer throughout mission timelines. They also reinforce Intuitive Machines' broader space data network and infrastructure business, positioning the company alongside a growing field of firms building lunar communications architecture as NASA's Artemis program and other international lunar efforts increase demand for relay and ground-support services.

Network to Support IM-3 and Altus-1 Missions

Intuitive Machines previously integrated Goonhilly systems into its IM-1 and IM-2 lunar missions. That operating history gives the company practical experience with Goonhilly's equipment and services, creating a clearer integration path for the newly expanded network. IM-1, which delivered the Odysseus lander to the lunar surface in February 2024, marked the first commercial Moon landing and the first U.S. soft landing since the Apollo program.

The company plans to utilize Goonhilly and related network assets during its upcoming IM-3 and Altus-1 missions. IM-3 will mark Intuitive Machines' third lunar mission under NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative, a program through which NASA contracts multiple providers—including Astrobotic and Firefly Aerospace—to deliver science and technology payloads to the lunar surface.

Altus-1 will launch the company's first lunar data relay satellite, supported by NASA through its Near Space Network Services contract with Intuitive Machines. The Altus-1 satellite will expand data relay options for future lunar operations. The ground network will consequently support both direct mission links and broader communications services.

Acquisitions Broaden Space Infrastructure Strategy

The acquisitions extend Intuitive Machines beyond spacecraft development and lunar delivery into ground communications, which now represents a larger portion of its end-to-end mission support platform.
