Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP Memecoin Crashes After Launch
Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP memecoin launched on Base on Wednesday and reached $190.81 just 120 seconds later. The token fell 90% within 30 minutes. After one hour, it was trading near $4.77, and by the afternoon it had declined to about $1.80—roughly 99% below its peak. Decrypt reported separately on the launch and decline.
The token’s airdrop was intended to compensate wallets that were underwater on Donald Trump’s meme coin. Instead, its first day produced another group of heavily underwater holders.
Some traders profited. One wallet withdrew $249,800 from Binance before the launch, bought 9,124 LAPTOP tokens at approximately $27 each, and sold most of the position minutes later at around $129 per token for about $1.18 million. The trade generated a gain of approximately $930,000 after a five-minute holding period.
Subscribers to Hunter Biden’s Substack received airdrops worth more than $400,000 at the token’s peak, and some were able to sell those holdings. Other traders recorded substantial losses. One wallet spent about $200,000 to buy 919 tokens near $218 each. The position was worth less than $3,000 an hour later, representing a 98.5% loss.
The launch did not materially affect the broader market. Major cryptocurrencies and altcoins were largely unchanged in the hours that followed, and leading on-chain tokens were also unaffected until a broader downturn later in the day.
