Hotel101 Global Holdings Corp. is set to make its entry into Africa through a country-wide development agreement in Egypt, beginning with a P6.44-billion hotel project in Cairo's western district.
"The development is subject to customary governmental, regulatory, corporate other approvals," the Nasdaq-listed company, a unit of DoubleDragon Corp. (DD), said in a statement on Wednesday.
Named Hotel101-Cairo West, the property will feature roughly 750 rooms on a 15,984-square-meter site along Ahmed Zewail Road in 6th of October City, Giza, with completion targeted by 2029.
Hotel101 signed the agreement with WNTR Property & Hospitality, an affiliate of IGI Holding, an Egyptian group with interests spanning manufacturing, petroleum, construction, and real estate.
The hotel will sit about 10 minutes from the Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum. According to Hotel101, the property is expected to rank among Cairo's three largest hotels by room count.
Planned as a four-star development, the project will include facilities for business events such as a ballroom, meeting rooms, and a conference center. Amenities are expected to include restaurants, swimming pools, a gym, a business center, a children's playground, parking facilities, and luggage storage — a mix aimed at serving both business-event guests and the leisure travelers drawn to the pyramids and museum minutes away.
IGI Developments, IGI Holding's property unit, has been building residential communities in Egypt since the mid-1990s and holds a land bank of approximately 2.5 million square meters.
The Egypt project forms part of Hotel101 Global's overseas expansion, broadening an international push that currently spans Hotel101-Madrid, which began operating in Spain in March, and a 482-room hotel in Niseko, Hokkaido, Japan, scheduled to open in December — a property Cairo West, at roughly 750 rooms, would outscale. The Niseko opening stands as the nearest milestone in that pipeline, while progress in Egypt still depends on the customary approvals the company flagged, ahead of the 2029 completion target.
DoubleDragon shares closed unchanged at P11.70 each.
