HDFC Life Gets IRDAI Approval for Reappointment of MD & CEO Vibha Padalkar

HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd. has received approval from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) for the reappointment of Vibha Padalkar as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for a period of five years, with effect from September 12, 2026.

The insurance regulator has also approved the appointment of Niraj Shah as Chief Financial Officer of the company for a five-year term commencing April 26, 2026.

IRDAI, the statutory authority that regulates and develops India's insurance sector, is required to clear the appointment of key management personnel at insurance companies, including chief executives and finance heads. Under the Companies Act, 2013, the reappointment of a managing director also requires shareholder approval, typically sought through a vote at the company's annual general meeting.

HDFC Life is one of India's leading private life insurers and its shares are listed on the National Stock Exchange and BSE. Padalkar, a chartered accountant, joined the insurer in 2008 and has led the company as Managing Director and CEO since 2018, having previously served as its finance chief. Her tenure has included the acquisition of Exide Life Insurance, completed in 2022, and the 2023 merger of promoter HDFC Ltd. into HDFC Bank, which made the bank the insurer's promoter.

The clearances come as IRDAI pursues a wide-ranging reform agenda under its stated vision of "Insurance for All by 2047", which aims to deepen insurance penetration across India and simplify compliance for insurers.

The regulatory clearances come shortly after the company reported a strong performance for the first quarter. CNBC-TV18 earlier reported that HDFC Life's Q1 value of new business (VNB) margins beat street estimates, while premium growth trails estimates.
