LOGISTICS PROVIDER Federal Express Corp. (FedEx) has appointed Garrick Thompson as managing director for the Philippines following the retirement of Maribeth E. Espinosa.

Mr. Thompson previously served as managing director of FedEx Indonesia for five years, the company said.

FedEx said he will lead its Philippine operations and support the company’s efforts to expand cross-border trade and strengthen the country’s links to global markets, a role that comes as the logistics sector continues to invest in faster and more integrated regional supply chains.

Mr. Thompson will also oversee the Asia Pacific Trade Facilitation Center, which manages customs clearance, trade compliance, and cargo documentation across Asia Pacific, the United States, Canada, and Europe, the company said.

He joined FedEx in 2007 and previously served as senior sales manager for FedEx Philippines, according to the company.

FedEx is also expanding its Clark facility, which the company said will strengthen connectivity and support local trade.

The global logistics provider broke ground on the planned expansion in May.

Once completed, the facility will span about 78,000 square meters (sq.m.) and will feature upgraded handling and operational capabilities designed to improve shipment flow, FedEx said.

Its existing Clark facility spans about 17,000 sq.m. and can sort up to 9,000 parcels per hour, according to information on the company’s website.

The expansion adds capacity to one of FedEx’s key hubs in the Philippines as the company continues to position the country within its wider global network.
