ETHGas Falls 92% From June Peak as GWEI Hits All-Time Low

ETHGas [GWEI], a token tied to gas fees on the Ethereum [$ETH] network, fell more than 10% over the past 24 hours as activity indicators pointed to weaker demand across the Ethereum ecosystem.

Daily trading volume moved in the same direction as the price decline, dropping 49% to about $20 million. The fall in volume reflected a loss of trader interest in GWEI as Ethereum gas fees continued to move lower.

Falling Ethereum gas fees weigh on GWEI

Demand for GWEI weakened because the token’s intrinsic value is connected to Ethereum gas fees, which were declining despite ongoing upgrades across the Ethereum ecosystem. Gas fees are the costs users pay to execute transactions and interact with applications on Ethereum, so lower fees generally indicate less competition for blockspace.

At press time, ETHGas was at an all-time low of 0.042 GWEI, a level associated with minimal network congestion and reduced user demand. When network fees fall to such levels, the token’s core utility and speculative demand also decline.

The main area where higher fees were still visible was NFT sales, suggesting that remaining demand on the Ethereum network was concentrated in that sector.

With fees trading near all-time lows, both institutional and retail holders were selling GWEI on centralized and decentralized exchanges. Retail participants were mainly using PancakeSwap DEX, OKX, and Bitget to reduce their holdings.

KuCoin and Gate also moved holdings from cold wallets to hot wallets. Gate transferred 20 million GWEI, worth $591,000, in two transactions, while KuCoin moved 30 million GWEI, worth $800,000, in three transfers.

Altogether, more than 50 million GWEI, valued at roughly $1.40 million, was sold within 24 hours, excluding additional distribution from retail holders.

Exchange balances also increased by about 3.7 million tokens over 24 hours, reinforcing the view that holders across the crypto market were preparing to sell or had already moved tokens toward trading venues.

GWEI trades near all-time lows

GWEI’s price action was consistent with the broader decline in Ethereum network demand. The token has fallen about 92% from its late-June peak of $0.2519.

Net volume dropped from 5.37 million to negative 9.15 million, indicating a large distribution event, although the data showed signs that the move was beginning to stabilize.

The token also broke below a broadening wedge pattern as sellers remained in control. However, some technical indicators showed early signs of a potential shift in momentum.

The MACD was forming a crossover, with histogram bars turning green for the first time since July 7. That development suggested ETHGas was attempting to stabilize after its decline.

Even so, GWEI remains in a bearish market structure unless higher Ethereum network usage and stronger user demand return. For fee-linked assets, the key metric to watch remains whether on-chain activity increases enough to lift transaction costs from current lows.

ETHGas fell more than 10% in 24 hours as Ethereum network congestion and user demand stayed low. GWEI also broke below a broadening wedge pattern and reached an all-time low of $0.01892, while some indicators showed early signs of buyer activity returning.
