The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has appointed Pascal Caversaccio, widely known in the crypto community as "pcaversaccio," to its board of directors. Caversaccio is a co-founder and lead of SEAL 911, a multichain security response initiative created to help users recover from smart contract exploits, wallet compromises, and other crypto-related security incidents. His appointment comes as the Foundation deepens its institutional focus on privacy and security—priorities that have taken on renewed urgency as DeFi and cross-chain protocols remain frequent targets of exploitation.

According to the EF's official announcement on Wednesday, Caversaccio joined the board for an initial one-year term on a voluntary basis. He becomes the fourth member of the Foundation's board, alongside EF president Aya Miyaguchi, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, and Swiss counsel Patrick Storchenegger. The addition expands the board's security expertise at a time when the Foundation is structurally embedding privacy and safety guarantees into the protocol roadmap.

Caversaccio is a longtime Ethereum contributor and a member of the Foundation's Silviculture Society, an informal advisory group focused on censorship resistance, open-source development, privacy, and security. Through SEAL 911, he has coordinated rapid-response assistance across multiple chains, working with developers and white-hat hackers to negotiate fund recoveries after major incidents. He also authored The Ethereum Cypherpunk Manifesto in 2024 and Ethereum Privacy: The Road to Self-Sovereignty in 2025, both of which articulate visions for preserving user privacy and self-sovereignty within the Ethereum ecosystem.

The board is responsible for setting the Foundation's overarching vision and overseeing whether management's strategies and decisions remain aligned with its core values. The Foundation described the body as a "security council" tasked with protecting its mission and ensuring compliance in its capacity as a Swiss foundation—a legal structure that imposes specific governance and fiduciary obligations under Swiss law.

The appointment reflects a broader organizational shift in which the Foundation is elevating privacy and security to central pillars of its strategy. In June, the EF outlined structural updates in which it described privacy and security as "non-negotiable protocol guarantees." The Foundation said its protocol team would work to translate ongoing research—including layer-1 privacy and post-quantum security—into concrete protocol changes designed to preserve Ethereum's self-sovereignty. Caversaccio's board seat signals that security practitioners, not only researchers, will have a voice in shaping how those guarantees are implemented.

The Ethereum Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the development of the Ethereum blockchain, one of the largest smart contract platforms by total value locked and market capitalization.
