Ethena (ENA) Rallies 12% After Adding Binance Equity Perpetuals to USDe Basis Trade
Key Takeaways
- •Ethena will use Binance bStocks as spot collateral hedged by short equity perpetual futures, marking the first expansion of USDe's delta-neutral basis trade beyond crypto markets.
- •Binance's bStocks provide exposure to shares such as Nvidia and Tesla without direct ownership and are backed 1:1 by real securities held through issuer BTech Holdings Limited.
- •Binance's equity perpetual open interest has exceeded $2.9 billion, and the equity basis has averaged 3.56% annualized over the past six months.
- •ENA gained 12% over 24 hours to trade around $0.249, with roughly $150,000 in ENA short positions liquidated across major exchanges.
- •The tokenized stock market grew more than thirtyfold year over year to $2.7 billion in August, though Ethena has not disclosed what portion of USDe's collateral will move into equity positions.

Ethena has expanded the basis trade that backs its USDe stablecoin into tokenized US equities, adding tokenized US stocks and equity perpetual futures to the protocol's collateral strategy. A basis trade pairs a long position in the spot asset with a short futures position, collecting the funding payments exchanged between the two sides. Under the change, Ethena will use Binance bStocks as spot collateral, paired with equity perpetual futures as a hedge. The move follows approval from Ethena's Risk Committee and takes the fund's delta-neutral strategy beyond crypto markets for the first time.
ENA price reacted quickly to the news. The token rose 12% over 24 hours and was trading around $0.249 at the time of writing.
Binance bStocks give holders exposure to shares such as Nvidia and Tesla without direct ownership. The tokens are backed 1:1 by real securities held through issuer BTech Holdings Limited.
Ethena announced the integration in a post on X on September 25, 2026:
Ethena is partnering with @Binance as our first venue for the extension of the basis trade into equity perpetuals, one of the most exciting updates to the USDe collateral backing since launch. Under the new structure, Ethena will short equity perpetual futures against its bStocks positions. The goal is to capture the funding spread between spot and derivatives markets, the same mechanism the protocol applies when it trades crypto. Because the short offsets the long, the combined position is built to earn that spread without depending on which way the underlying stocks move — the delta-neutral quality that lets the strategy draw income from equities while remaining hedged to their price swings.
Yield From a New Market
Binance's equity perpetual open interest has passed $2.9 billion, and the equity basis has averaged 3.56% annualized over the past six months.
Ethena Labs founder Guy Young called it the largest expansion of USDe's funding mechanism since launch, noting that equities trade in the hundreds of trillions of dollars globally. Binance's Head of Exchange and Trading, Shunyet Jan, said the move reflects growing overlap between crypto and traditional asset markets.
USDe's backing already includes DeFi lending, stablecoin liquidity, and tokenized real-world assets. Crypto basis trades made up close to 1% of the portfolio as of early July.
Market Reaction and Positioning
ENA's rise coincided with a broader rotation into altcoins as Bitcoin traded sideways, with DeFi tokens among the sector's stronger performers over the same period. Roughly $150,000 in ENA short positions were liquidated across major exchanges, adding further upward pressure to the move.

Binance has built out its equity products through 2026. The exchange opened access to more than 7,000 US stocks and ETFs in June, followed by bStocks that same month. TradFi perpetual futures on Binance generated $433.4 billion in volume during August, with equity-linked contracts accounting for roughly $342.9 billion of that total — the same instruments that generate the open interest and funding spread underpinning Ethena's new trade.
The tokenized stock market tracked by Token Terminal reached $2.7 billion in August, up from about $80 million a year earlier, a more than thirtyfold expansion in twelve months. Binance's bStocks accounted for more than $600 million of that figure.
One detail left open by the announcement is the size of Ethena's allocation: the company has not said what portion of USDe's collateral will move into equity positions. Binance's equity perpetual open interest and funding figures, along with Token Terminal tracking of the tokenized stock market, offer public reference points for following how both sides of the trade develop.
