Ethena Partners With Binance to Extend Basis Trade Into Equity Perpetuals as ENA Rallies 57% in a Week
Key Takeaways
- •Ethena has partnered with Binance as the first venue to extend its basis trade strategy into equity perpetuals, with allocations beginning on September 25.
- •The partnership expands Ethena's addressable collateral market from roughly $2.5 trillion in crypto assets to more than $150 trillion in real-world assets.
- •The new structure uses tokenized bStocks as spot collateral hedged against Binance's USDT-denominated equity perpetuals, preserving the protocol's delta-neutral yield model.
- •Binance's equity basis trade has averaged more than 11% annualized returns over the past six months, with open interest growing roughly 30% per month over the last three months, according to the protocol's data.
- •Binance is granting lower auto-deleveraging priority to eligible delta-neutral accounts including Ethena's, reducing the risk of forced position closures and adding protection for USDe holders.

Ethena has announced a partnership with Binance to extend its signature basis trade strategy into equity perpetuals, a move the protocol describes as one of the most significant updates to the collateral backing of its USDe synthetic dollar since launch.
The arrangement expands Ethena's addressable collateral market from roughly $2.5 trillion in crypto assets to more than $150 trillion in real-world assets. Binance is serving as the first venue for the extension, and allocations began on September 25, according to the protocol's announcement.
USDe, the protocol's synthetic dollar, is backed by a portfolio of collateral assets that are hedged through derivatives positions, allowing the token's yield to be generated from trading activity rather than price movements. Since that yield scales with the size of the hedged portfolio rather than the direction of any single market, the breadth of eligible collateral directly shapes how much the system can generate.
From Crypto Perpetuals to Equity Perpetuals
Ethena has operated a delta-neutral strategy since its inception. The approach pairs crypto collateral short perpetual futures positions, enabling the protocol to generate yield while minimizing exposure to price swings in the underlying assets. Perpetual futures are derivatives contracts with no expiry date, and holding spot collateral against short perpetual positions captures the spread between the two as yield — the basis trade at the core of Ethena's model. Ethena says that model captured more than $15 billion in crypto perpetuals during the last market cycle, and it now expects the equity perpetuals opportunity to exceed that figure by a wide margin, given the far larger total addressable market in traditional equities.
According to the protocol's data, Binance's equity basis trade has averaged more than 11% in annualized returns over the past six months, while open interest in the market has grown roughly 30% per month over the last three months — a pace that illustrates how quickly the venue's equity derivatives segment is scaling, though the return figure is a historical average rather than a fixed rate.
Ethena announced the extension in a post on X:

How the Binance Equity Basis Trade Works
The new structure uses bStocks as tokenized spot collateral. Ethena hedges that collateral with Binance's USDT-denominated equity perpetuals, mirroring the same delta-neutral approach it already applies to crypto assets. In practice, that lets the protocol draw yield from equity-market basis conditions in the same way crypto funding conditions have driven its historical returns.
Binance is also granting lower auto-deleveraging (ADL) priority to eligible delta-neutral accounts, including Ethena's. Auto-deleveraging is a mechanism exchanges use to force-close selected positions during periods of extreme market stress, with priority determining which accounts are tapped first. The measure reduces the risk of forced position closures during volatile market swings, adding a layer of protection for USDe holders.
Separately, Ethena's governance framework routes 95% of protocol revenue toward ENA buybacks once USDe supply reaches $7.5 billion, a mechanism designed to strengthen ENA's value capture beyond the project's earlier inflationary tokenomics.
ENA Price Reaction and Key Levels
At publication, ENA trades near $0.2615, up 20.94% over the past day and 57.17% over the week, according to CoinGecko data. Daily trading volume has reached $959.96 million.
Analyst Giannis Andreou noted that the token broke above $0.1925 resistance after holding support near $0.1352. He is watching $0.263 as the next hurdle, with $0.302 and the $0.36–$0.38 zone as further upside targets if retests hold. A daily close below $0.1925, he added, could open a retracement toward $0.17.
Analyst Altcoin Sherpa separately flagged $0.42 as ENA's next major weekly resistance level, noting the token has consolidated below the $0.41–$0.42 zone since pulling back from its 2025 highs above $1.
$ENA next big big level is like 0.42 if this area can get cleared? Still 1 of the better coins you can buy IMO. pic.twitter.com/6T3CNQGou5

With the expansion, Ethena is extending its crypto basis trade into a market more than 60 times larger than the one it has drawn on to date. Combined with the ADL protections and the revenue-linked buyback framework, the partnership ties ENA's value more directly to growth in USDe's supply. The metrics worth tracking from here are the equity basis trade's realized returns and USDe's supply path relative to the $7.5 billion buyback threshold.
