Diablo Resources (ASX: DBO) has started on-site diamond drilling at its North Star silver-antimony prospect in Utah, United States, with rigs now operating in an area that has already produced high-grade rock sample anomalies.
The company is drilling a target within the prospect area that previously returned a rock sample result of more than 3,000g/t silver, equivalent to about 98 ounces per tonne assuming uniformity. Earlier this year, other rock samples from the same area returned grades of more than 1,590g/t, 2,300g/t and 1,243g/t silver. Those samples also recorded coincident antimony concentrations.
The program that began on Wednesday is planned to start with five holes for a total of 1,000m and may be expanded if results continue to support further work. Diablo has existing approvals to increase the program to as many as 27 holes.
The drilling represents the first modern drill test at the North Star prospect and the first subsurface geodata collection to be carried out thoroughly on site. That makes the campaign an important step in moving beyond surface sampling and into direct testing of what lies below the anomalous rock results, with the company saying the work should provide geotechnical information to help build an initial understanding of underground mineralisation at North Star.
North Star sits within Diablo’s larger Star Range project, which the company describes as its largest landholding in Utah. Diablo also remains focused on the nearby Horn Silver Mine project, highlighting the broader exploration footprint it is building in the district.
