CZ: Tokenization Could Become Every Country's Next Funding Strategy
Key Takeaways
- •CZ stated in an August 21 post on X that tokenization is one of the best ways for countries to raise money and attract foreign direct investment by selling tokenized shares globally.
- •He supports issuing tokenized assets on all blockchains but acknowledged liquidity fragmentation as a challenge, suggesting greater interoperability between issuers could reduce inefficiencies.
- •BNB Chain reported approximately 776,000 tokenized asset holders, growth of roughly 370% over thirty days, along with $5.8 billion in distributed asset value across 1,284 tokenized assets.
- •Industry data shows the broader tokenization sector reached about $38.4 billion in distributed asset value, while tokenized asset holders rose nearly 80% to more than 2.37 million.
- •Tokenized stocks and securities must still comply with applicable laws on ownership, disclosure, trading, and investor protection, and the US SEC held a public roundtable on asset tokenization in 2025.

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, widely known as CZ, has argued that tokenization could become a powerful funding strategy for countries seeking access to global capital. In his view, governments and companies can attract foreign investors by offering tokenized assets to participants around the world. Zhao led Binance as CEO until stepping down in November 2023 and remains one of the most-followed figures in the crypto industry on X.
His remarks come as the tokenized real-world asset (RWA) sector continues to expand across multiple blockchain networks and investment categories, with holder counts and asset values climbing across the market.
CZ Promotes Tokenization as a Capital Attraction Tool
CZ described tokenization as one of the most effective ways for countries to raise capital and attract foreign investment. In an Aug. 21 post on X, he wrote, “Tokenization is one of the best ways for countries to raise money,” arguing that governments and companies could expand their investor base by offering tokenized shares to global markets.
In the same post, he framed tokenization as a way to attract foreign direct investment (FDI), asking which country or company would not want to sell its tokenized stocks to everyone in the world. He also stated his support for tokenization on all blockchains.
Let's tokenize everything. Tokenization is one of the best ways for countries to "raise money", or attract FDI (Foreign Direct Investment). Which country/company won't want to sell their (tokenized) stocks to everyone in the world? I support tokenization on all blockchains.…

According to CZ, tokenized assets can broaden market access and create new fundraising opportunities beyond traditional financial systems. He added that tokenization should not remain limited to a single blockchain ecosystem or infrastructure provider.
The Binance founder supports issuing tokenized assets across multiple networks despite concerns about fragmented market liquidity. In his view, competition among blockchain ecosystems would accelerate development and encourage wider adoption throughout the sector.
CZ acknowledged, however, that liquidity fragmentation remains a challenge for tokenized markets operating across separate blockchain environments. He suggested that greater interoperability between issuers could help reduce inefficiencies and improve asset movement between networks.
His comments did not announce any government initiative, regulatory filing, or tokenized asset launch. Instead, they reflected his broader view regarding the future growth of digital asset markets. Public issuers have, however, already tested blockchain-based fundraising: Hong Kong's government sold a HK$6 billion multi-currency digital green bond in early 2024 after an initial tokenized green bond issuance in 2023, and the European Investment Bank has issued bonds recorded on blockchain networks since 2021.
Growing RWA Market Supports the Tokenization Narrative
CZ's remarks followed new data showing rapid expansion within the tokenized real-world asset market in recent months. BNB Chain reported approximately 776,000 tokenized asset holders, representing growth of roughly 370% over thirty days.
Separate data from RWA.xyz recorded 776,428 holders on BNB Chain as of August 19. The platform also reported $5.8 billion in distributed asset value across 1,284 tokenized assets on the network.
The broader tokenization sector, meanwhile, continues gaining momentum across several asset classes and blockchain ecosystems. Industry data shows distributed asset value reached approximately $38.4 billion, an increase of 2.16% during the past month.
The number of tokenized asset holders grew even faster, rising nearly 80% to more than 2.37 million. In addition, tokenized stock value currently stands near $2.46 billion, while monthly transfer volume approaches $25.51 billion. That expansion has been supported by growing institutional participation: BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, launched its tokenized BUIDL fund in March 2024, Franklin Templeton operates an on-chain US government money fund, and trading platforms including Robinhood and Kraken introduced tokenized stock offerings for retail customers in 2025.
Despite growing adoption, regulatory requirements remain an important consideration for issuers and investors. Tokenized stocks and securities must still comply with applicable laws governing ownership rights, disclosures, trading activities, and investor protections. In the United States, the Securities and Exchange Commission held a public roundtable on asset tokenization in 2025 as part of a broader policy discussion on how existing securities rules apply to blockchain-based instruments.
As governments explore new funding channels, tokenization may gain greater attention. Even so, the long-term success of the sector will depend on regulatory clarity, interoperability standards, and sustained investor participation — including how far tokenized stock offerings extend beyond their initial markets and whether cross-border issuance rules become consistent between jurisdictions.
