Crypto ETFs Bleed $1.29 Billion in One Week as Bitcoin and Ether Funds Lead Exits

U.S. crypto exchange-traded funds lost a combined $1.29 billion during the trading week of Oct. 5 to Oct. 9, according to Farside Investors data, with Bitcoin and Ether products accounting for the bulk of the withdrawals. Because ETF issuers report creations and redemptions each trading day, weekly flow tallies give a session-by-session read on how U.S. investors are allocating to crypto through exchange-listed funds.

Bitcoin funds shed $678.9 million, ending a three-week run of inflows. Ether funds lost $542.2 million, their worst week since January, while Solana funds dropped roughly $25 million, closing out a record 14-week inflow streak. Zcash and Hyperliquid funds also posted losses.

Other data providers show slightly different totals. SoSoValue placed combined losses for Bitcoin, Ether and Solana funds at about $1.25 billion, and put the weekly Bitcoin figure at $681.1 million versus Farside's $678.9 million. By either measure, the week marked the end of three consecutive weeks of net inflows for Bitcoin products. Such gaps typically reflect differences in which funds each tracker covers and how daily flows are attributed.

The scale of the retreat drew attention on X. Ted posted on Oct. 10:

ETFs sold $681,000,000 in $BTC and $542,000,000 in $ETH this week. Huge outflow.

Bitcoin funds lose money despite Friday inflow

Wednesday was the worst single day, with $484.9 million leaving Bitcoin funds, followed by $244.1 million in outflows on Thursday. The products returned to net inflows on Friday, taking in $21.1 million. Even so, it was the worst week for Bitcoin funds since late June. Flow figures capture net creations and redemptions of fund shares rather than total trading volume, so weekly totals measure net shifts in positioning.

Fidelity's Bitcoin fund lost $380.3 million, the most of any fund. ARK 21Shares' fund followed with $207.2 million in outflows. BlackRock's Bitcoin fund finished slightly positive, with $1.1 million in inflows. Bitcoin funds now hold $105.84 billion in net assets, meaning the week's $678.9 million in exits equaled roughly 0.6% of that total.

Ether and Solana funds see record outflows

Ether funds lost $542.2 million for the week, with every trading day ending negative. According to The Block, outflows have now stretched to nine straight trading days worth a cumulative $697.2 million, a run that began on Sept. 29.

BlackRock's Ether fund lost $477.1 million, roughly 88% of the weekly total. Tuesday's $201.9 million exit coincided with the day its 1-for-3 reverse share split took effect — a corporate action that consolidates outstanding shares into fewer, higher-priced ones without changing a fund's net assets. Grayscale's Ether fund lost $31.9 million. Morgan Stanley's Ether fund was the only one in Farside's table to post weekly inflows.

Solana funds lost about $25 million across five negative sessions, the largest weekly outflow since the products launched in October 2025. The losses ended a record 14-week inflow streak; just two weeks earlier, the funds had drawn a record $188.2 million in a single week. Bitwise's Solana fund accounted for about $21 million of the exits, and its net assets stand at $1.20 billion. With about a year of trading history, the funds' inflow and outflow records are all benchmarks set within that short window.

Zcash funds lost $30.8 million, following $77.6 million in outflows the week before. Hyperliquid funds lost $9.4 million, reversing a $3.4 million inflow.

Ether traded near $2,506 on Saturday morning, according to The Block. Solana changed hands around $110.50, while Bitcoin sat near $82,900. Daily flow reports from Farside and SoSoValue will show in the coming week whether Ether's redemption run extended past nine sessions and whether Solana funds returned to net inflows.
