CredPal, a Nigerian fintech company known for its credit and flexible payment services, has launched Atom, a new investment platform that lets users purchase Nigerian stocks, US securities and digital assets while also accessing naira liquidity against eligible holdings without selling them.
Announced on October 30, Atom combines investment services with AI-powered market intelligence and asset-backed lending. According to the company, the platform is designed to help investors manage their portfolios and meet financial needs without having to liquidate their investments.
Through Atom Retail, individual investors can buy and trade Nigerian and US stocks alongside more than 300 digital assets, with no minimum deposit required. The platform also delivers personalised market and portfolio insights designed to help users understand their holdings.
Investors who need cash can pledge qualifying assets to access naira liquidity or margin, subject to eligibility. According to CredPal, this can help users cover expenses such as school fees, business costs, housing and emergencies without immediately selling their investments. Because pledged holdings remain in place, the structure is designed to bridge immediate cash needs and long-term investing rather than forcing a choice between the two.
Fehintolu Olaogun, Atom's chief executive officer, said the idea grew out of CredPal's experience building credit products and observing how often people had to give up assets to meet immediate financial needs.
“Nine years of building CredPal showed us how often people need cash and how often getting it costs them something they wanted to keep. Atom is built so investors can own more and sell less,” Olaogun said.
Beyond individual investors, Atom is targeting banks, fintechs, stockbrokers and wealth managers through Atom Business. The service provides APIs and white-label infrastructure that institutions can use to offer their customers trading, portfolio management, market intelligence and asset-backed liquidity — meaning an institution could put those capabilities in front of its own customers without building the underlying systems itself.
Olorunfemi Jegede, Atom's chief operating officer, said many financial platforms bring customers into the investment market but lack the tools to support them after their first purchase.
“Most platforms should not have to build all of that themselves. Atom Business gives them that infrastructure through APIs and white-label products,” Jegede said.
The launch comes against a backdrop of limited participation in Nigeria's capital market. CredPal cited Securities and Exchange Commission data showing that fewer than 4% of Nigerian adults invest in the market — a gap that underscores how small a share of the population the country's existing investment channels have reached.
Atom is built on CredPal's existing underwriting, risk management and payments infrastructure. CredPal says it has disbursed more than $100 million in credit and serves more than one million users. The company added that regulated services on Atom will be delivered through the relevant licensed CredPal entities or partners: stockbroking and crypto services will be provided through licensed brokers, while CredPal and its lending partners will provide asset-backed liquidity. The arrangement keeps each regulated function with the appropriate licensed entity, with Atom serving as the platform layer built on CredPal's credit and payments stack.
The launch adds another player to Africa's growing digital investment market, with a model that combines access to financial assets with the ability to borrow against them. How far that model reaches into Nigeria's under-4% investing population, and how many institutions plug into its white-label infrastructure, remain the open questions to watch.
