An outraged Democratic senator said Wednesday that he was heading to Danbury, Connecticut, after accusing federal immigration agents of targeting parents at school bus stops and waiting until their children were gone before making arrests.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) raised the alarm in a post on X as local reports described increased Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity across several Connecticut communities. The episode reflects how immigration enforcement can quickly ripple beyond the people directly detained, affecting school routines and raising fears among families and local officials.

“This morning in Danbury, ICE was arresting parents at school bus stops,” Murphy wrote. “But it’s more sinister. ICE waited until the kids were on the bus so when they are dropped off at the end of the day, they are alone, scared to death they can’t find their parents.”

“I’m heading to Danbury,” the senator added.

Murphy did not say what he planned to do after arriving in the city of about 80,000, which is near the New York state line.

His post came as local news outlets reported immigration arrests this week in Danbury, Stamford and Bridgeport, prompting alarm among residents and elected officials and putting a spotlight on how federal enforcement activity can play out in public spaces where children and parents gather each day.
