ChipMango, an AI-native semiconductor technology company, has raised $1.9 million to expand its engineering and product-development capacity, support new commercial design engagements, and scale its AI-native learning and workforce platform across Africa, the United States and Europe.
Atlantica Ventures led the round, with participation from DFS, Kaleo Ventures, Madica, Trilinear Technologies, Malta Ventures and other strategic investors.
The funding marks a significant push for ChipMango's tech-for-talent drive in Africa. It arrives at a moment when AI is increasing demand for semiconductor engineers and intelligent hardware, while advanced chip-design capacity remains concentrated in relatively few regions. Industry research by Deloitte estimates that the global tech industry must add one million skilled workers by 2030 — more than 100,000 each year — as annual semiconductor revenue approaches $1 trillion.
Reacting to the fundraising and expansion plans, ChipMango founder and CEO Ola Fadiran noted that the next era of AI will not be defined by software alone, but by who can design the chips, systems and intelligent hardware that power it.
"ChipMango is expanding access to those capabilities so more regions can help build the technologies shaping the future," he said.
The company is positioning itself against a backdrop of chip shortages. Global smartphone shipments are expected to decline 12.2% year-on-year in 2026, a 152 million-unit drop from the 1.246 billion units recorded in 2025 to 1.093 billion units. The decline is being driven by average DRAM and NAND flash memory prices, which rose by more than 80% quarter-on-quarter in Q1 2026, with further hikes and shortages expected through the second half of 2026. The average selling price of a smartphone is also expected to jump from $467 in 2025 to $565 in 2026.
ChipMango aims to bridge the memory supply gap by training young talent and equipping engineers with the resources needed to scale. Its workforce-focused approach comes as governments worldwide — including through the US CHIPS and Science Act and the European Chips Act — have committed public funding to expanding semiconductor capacity, underscoring how narrowly concentrated chip design and manufacturing have historically been. ChipMango's model is centered on engineering skills and design services rather than fabricating chips, which typically requires multibillion-dollar manufacturing facilities.
The company plans to establish a European Design Centre in Malta together with Malta Ventures. In Africa, it plans to deploy advanced ecosystem-building initiatives in Kigali, Rwanda, focused on semiconductor capability, workforce development and AI infrastructure. Rwanda has in recent years positioned itself as a regional technology hub, hosting initiatives such as the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution partnered with the World Economic Forum.
Although ChipMango is headquartered in Delaware, United States, it operates in California, South Africa, Nigeria, Rwanda and Malta.
The startup's ambition is built around a talent-for-tech strategy that seeks to transform Africa from a software base into a digital-infrastructure hub. With the world's youngest population, Africa offers a large, tech-literate demographic that ChipMango wants to leverage to build and train local talent in AI-driven electronic infrastructure. Expanding its footprint on the continent could also help supply chips at lower prices for data centres, smartphones and other devices.
For years, Africa's tech ecosystem has relied largely on software development for its fintech, e-commerce, logistics and data centres, while the underlying chip infrastructure depends on hardware designed and manufactured in East Asia and the United States. ChipMango's expansion into Africa could therefore mark another major development for the continent's technology ecosystem.
Beyond building local talent, the company aims to position African engineers to work on global commercial design engagements for clients outside Africa, including in North and South America, Europe and Asia. The participation of Trilinear Technologies and Arm in its ecosystem points to how such training-to-engagement pipelines increasingly depend on partnerships with established semiconductor firms.

ChipMango co-founder and COO Jovan Andjelich said the funding gives the company the foundation for its next phase of growth.

What bears watching is whether ChipMango's trained engineers move into global commercial engagements at scale, and whether its Kigali and Malta initiatives produce the local semiconductor ecosystems the company envisions.
