Charles Schwab to Add Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink to Crypto Trading Platform

Charles Schwab is preparing to widen its cryptocurrency trading platform with the addition of Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink, giving clients of one of the largest U.S. brokerages access to three more major digital assets as it deepens its footprint in the crypto market.

The company said Thursday that Schwab Crypto clients will be able to buy and sell Solana (SOL), Avalanche (AVAX) and Chainlink (LINK) in the coming months. The move follows the phased rollout of Schwab Crypto in May, when the platform first offered direct trading in Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Broader Access to Digital Assets

The new listings represent a significant expansion of Schwab's direct crypto offering. The brokerage said it selected established digital assets that align with client demand; SOL and AVAX both rank among the largest cryptocurrencies by market value, and LINK is the native token of Chainlink, the most widely used decentralized oracle network.

The platform currently charges 75 basis points on the dollar value of each trade, a flat structure that contrasts with the volume-tiered fee schedules common on specialized exchanges, and clients can hold cryptocurrency alongside traditional investments within Schwab's digital investing ecosystem.

Schwab also intends to add further cryptocurrencies and digital assets over time. The company cautioned, however, that it may delay, modify or withdraw support for an announced asset depending on market, regulatory, operational or risk considerations.

An Institutional Push Into Crypto

The expansion strengthens Schwab's effort to bring cryptocurrency into a mainstream brokerage environment. The crypto offering is operated through Charles Schwab Premier Bank, with Paxos — a New York-chartered trust company whose crypto infrastructure is also used by other major financial firms — providing sub-custody and trade execution services.

Schwab launched spot crypto trading with Bitcoin and Ethereum after surveying investors about what they wanted from a cryptocurrency platform, and the company emphasized pricing, brand familiarity, security and investor education as key considerations.

With Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink, Schwab clients gain exposure to assets beyond the two largest cryptocurrencies. Solana is widely used for blockchain applications and digital asset transactions, Avalanche focuses on scalable blockchain networks, and Chainlink provides infrastructure designed to connect blockchain networks with external data.

The expansion comes as traditional financial firms continue integrating digital assets into established investment platforms. Fidelity offers retail clients spot trading in Bitcoin and Ethereum through its Fidelity Crypto platform, Interactive Brokers supports a longer list of coins, and Robinhood has made a broad menu of tokens a core feature of its trading app. For Schwab, adding more tokens could help retain investors who want cryptocurrency exposure without maintaining separate accounts with specialized crypto exchanges.

The announcement did not address whether the platform would support staking on proof-of-stake networks such as Solana and Avalanche, a service already offered by several specialized exchanges, leaving that as an open question as the listings roll out.
