Carver State Bank, a mission-driven Community Development Financial Institution — a category of mission-focused lenders working to expand access to financial services in underserved communities — that has served the Savannah community for nearly a century, and Prosprous.ai, an AI-powered financial wellness platform, have announced a partnership to explore how human-centered artificial intelligence can help customers strengthen financial wellness, build confidence, and navigate financial decisions and opportunities more effectively.
The collaboration follows a series of discussions, product demonstrations, and joint planning sessions between the two organizations, culminating in an executed Memorandum of Understanding and a formal partnership kickoff in August. Carver and Prosprous will begin with a discovery and pilot-design phase to identify where AI-enabled support could deliver the greatest value to the bank's customers and staff, and to define the scope of an initial pilot. Areas under consideration include loan readiness, credit building, everyday financial wellness, community-program support, and impact and outcomes reporting.
"For nearly 100 years, Carver has combined deep community relationships with a commitment to expanding financial opportunity," said Robert E. James II, President and CEO of Carver Financial Corporation, the bank's parent company. "As we look toward our next century, we believe there is an important opportunity to thoughtfully explore how emerging technology can extend the reach of our mission To Provide the Building Blocks to Financial Freedom. Our work with Prosprous gives us an opportunity to examine where AI can provide meaningful support while preserving the human relationships at the heart of community banking."
A central focus of the collaboration will be understanding the behavioral and practical barriers that can make it difficult for customers to turn financial knowledge into action, and exploring how personalized AI support can help people make progress while complementing Carver's relationship-based model of community banking.
"Too often, financial education ends with the delivery of information, even though that is only the beginning of the journey," said Mae Watson Grote, Head of Impact at Prosprous.ai. "What matters is whether people can translate that information into action and whether the support they receive reflects the realities of their financial lives. This partnership gives us an opportunity to work alongside Carver to identify where those gaps exist and explore how technology can help address them in ways that are useful, measurable, and grounded in the needs of the community."
Prosprous combines artificial intelligence, behavioral science, and human-centered design to deliver personalized, context-aware financial guidance. Rather than relying on static financial education or traditional financial dashboards, the platform is designed to understand a person's circumstances, identify barriers to progress, and provide actionable guidance over time.
Both organizations are building measurement into the work from the outset, rather than treating it as a reporting exercise at the end. That design choice positions the partnership to demonstrate, rather than simply assert, whether AI support advances Carver's mission. Carver publishes an annual impact report and answers to the corporate, large bank, and philanthropic stakeholders who invest in its work; the partnership is intended to strengthen that account with evidence of customer progress alongside the stories Carver already tells.
"This partnership is an opportunity to start with people rather than technology," said Jason Huemer, Co-Founder and CEO of Prosprous.ai. "We are starting with what customers are trying to accomplish and what stands in the way. Success is not whether people use a new tool; it is whether they get somewhere they were trying to go: a loan they can qualify for, a credit profile that opens doors, a next step they can act on."
The collaboration comes as Carver approaches its centennial and continues to invest in the products, technology, and partnerships that will support its next generation of community impact. Scope, design, and timing of the initiative will be finalized by both organizations in the months ahead, and the pilot design that emerges from that process will offer the first concrete view of how the partnership's people-first principles translate into the bank's day-to-day work with customers.
