Capital Gas Ship Management Takes Delivery of LPG Dual-Fuel Gas Carrier MGC Aridaios
Key Takeaways
- •The MGC Aridaios is a 45,000 m³ LPG dual-fuel medium-sized gas carrier built by HD Hyundai Mipo in South Korea and delivered to Greece-based Capital Gas Ship Management.
- •The vessel is the second ship of this class in Capital Gas's managed fleet, joining its sister vessel MGC Aristogenis, which entered service in June 2026.
- •The carrier's dual-fuel engines enable operation on LPG or conventional marine fuels, with LPG producing lower emissions of sulphur oxides, particulate matter, and carbon dioxide compared to heavy fuel oil.
- •LPG remains a niche marine fuel used almost exclusively in gas carriers, which can utilize their own cargo as a fuel source without needing separate bunkering infrastructure.
- •Capital Gas Ship Management is part of the Capital Maritime Group, which has been an early adopter of dual-fuel technology across multiple alternative fuel types including LPG and LNG.

Greece-based Capital Gas Ship Management has taken delivery of a new LPG dual-fuel medium-sized gas carrier, expanding its managed fleet with a second vessel of this class.
The 45,000 m³ carrier, named MGC Aridaios, was built by HD Hyundai Mipo in South Korea and delivered on Wednesday, the company announced in a LinkedIn post.
The vessel is equipped with LPG dual-fuel engines, enabling it to operate on either LPG or conventional marine fuels. LPG as a marine propulsion fuel produces lower emissions of sulphur oxides, particulate matter, and carbon dioxide compared to conventional heavy fuel oil, positioning it as one of several alternative fuel pathways being explored by the shipping industry to meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations. Those regulations include the International Maritime Organization's revised greenhouse gas strategy, which targets net-zero emissions from international shipping by or around 2050 with indicative reduction checkpoints of 20–30% by 2030 and 70–80% by 2040, as well as the extension of the EU Emissions Trading System to cover maritime CO₂ emissions, which began phasing in from January 2024.
"The 'Aridaios' is the second 45,000 cbm medium-sized gas carrier delivered and the sister vessel of the MGC 'Aristogenis', which joined the managed fleet in June 2026," the firm said in its LinkedIn post.
HD Hyundai Mipo, a subsidiary of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, is one of South Korea's major mid-size shipbuilding yards and has built a range of gas carriers and dual-fuel vessels for international owners.
LPG remains a niche alternative bunker fuel at present, used almost exclusively in gas carriers. Gas carriers have a practical advantage in this regard, as they can draw on their own LPG cargo as a fuel source without requiring separate bunkering infrastructure at ports. Broader adoption across other vessel segments has been limited by factors including bunker availability, storage requirements, and the cost of dual-fuel engine systems.
Capital Gas Ship Management, based in Piraeus, Greece, manages a fleet of gas carriers and is part of the broader Capital Maritime Group, which has been an early adopter of dual-fuel technology across multiple alternative fuel types, including LPG and LNG.
