Canyon Partners Appoints Chris Hansen as Partner and Chief Information Officer

Canyon Partners (“Canyon”), a $30 billion global alternative investment manager, has announced the appointment of Chris Hansen as Partner and Chief Information Officer, a role that places him at the head of the firm’s technology organization.

Based in New York, Hansen is responsible for Canyon’s technology strategy and infrastructure. His remit spans information technology, business technology, engineering, and data architecture, along with the integration of artificial intelligence and alternative data across the firm’s investment platform. Working closely with Canyon’s investment and operating teams, he will focus on deepening the use of technology and data across investment research, underwriting, portfolio management, and firmwide operations. Pairing the CIO role with a partnership places technology leadership within Canyon’s senior ranks.

Hansen joins Canyon from TPG Angelo Gordon, where he served as Managing Director and Head of Product and Application Development. Over a twelve-year tenure at the firm, he led the modernization of its technology stack, an effort that encompassed the company’s cloud migration and the rebuilding of its portfolio analytics platform. He also drove the firm’s early adoption of artificial intelligence and alternative data across the organization — experience that overlaps directly with the integration mandate he now assumes at Canyon.

Earlier in his career, Hansen held the role of Managing Director for Global Markets Electronic Trading Technology at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

“Chris brings to the firm significant experience at the intersection of technology and investment management,” said Jonathan Kaplan, Co-Chief Operating Officer at Canyon. “Technology and data are integral to our investment process, helping our teams identify opportunities, evaluate risk, and deliver value for clients. We are excited to welcome Chris to Canyon and look forward to further leveraging his expertise across the entire platform.”

With AI and alternative data integration written into his mandate, how Canyon’s use of technology and data evolves under Hansen will be a development to watch as the firm works to deepen technology’s role across its investment process.
