Cadeler, a leading offshore wind installation vessel operator, has completed the acquisition of Menck, a German provider of specialist equipment and technology solutions for offshore foundation installation, under an agreed enterprise valuation of €501m ($578m).
The transaction was executed as a simultaneous signing and closing following receipt of all mandatory regulatory approvals. Cadeler acquired Menck from Acteon, a UK-headquartered offshore energy services group. Cadeler intends to continue operating Menck as a standalone business, preserving its independent market position.
The deal combines Menck's specialist technology portfolio—including more than 50 million data points on driven piles—with Cadeler's fleet of heavy-lift wind installation vessels, positioning the combined entity to offer integrated solutions across the full offshore wind foundation installation value chain. Foundation installation is a critical and time-sensitive phase of offshore wind farm construction, and access to both specialised equipment and heavy-lift capacity through a single provider addresses a long-standing supply chain bottleneck as developers race to meet ambitious deployment targets across Europe and Asia.
Financing was secured through available liquidity alongside a €380m ($438.5m) acquisition facility provided by DNB Bank and Coöperatieve Rabobank. The acquisition facility is expected to be refinanced through long-term financing arrangements and cash flow from operations.
"Bringing together Menck's specialist engineering capabilities with Cadeler's offshore installation proficiency, we are combining highly complementary strengths that will enhance our support to customers across the full installation value chain," said Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler.
Jochem Scherpenisse, EVP of Menck Marine Foundations, added: "Cadeler will strengthen Menck's financial flexibility to support and accelerate the execution of our continued growth plan. As part of that, Menck expects to introduce the first-of-its-kind next-generation Wind Hammer early in 2027, designed to enable the compliant installation of ultra-large foundations for offshore wind turbines." The emphasis on ultra-large foundations reflects the industry's shift toward next-generation turbines exceeding 15 MW in capacity, which require monopiles and jacket structures of unprecedented scale.
The acquisition comes just two days after Cadeler announced a near-$1bn order for the construction of two new T-class offshore wind installation vessels at COSCO Shipping Offshore shipyard, with scheduled delivery in 2030 and 2031. Together, these moves significantly expand Cadeler's capabilities and fleet capacity at a time of growing global demand for offshore wind infrastructure. The back-to-back announcements signal a broader consolidation and capacity-build cycle across the offshore wind supply chain, as vessel operators and equipment specialists position for a pipeline of projects tied to European Union targets of 60 GW of offshore wind by 2030 and 300 GW by 2050, as well as comparable expansion plans in Asia.
